New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi there,
I am trying to create my first graph for crochet.
I have read many of the posts on here regarding images etc. I have tried resizing the image and making sure it's .png.
I am having issues with the image looking blurry and leaving shadows on the graph, so it is adding colours that are not there.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome!
At this time it isn't possible to set an exact vertical size. This is a feature that's currently in development, so it will be available at some point. Originally, it wasn't allowed because setting both a horizontal and vertical size would more likely than not skew patterns, so the freePatternWizard was set to maximize the finished pattern with the correct aspect ratio. Since we've been hearing from people who want to set both length and width, though, we've determined that we'd like to offer a way to resize, though we're trying to offer that where patterns will have less chance of getting skewed to an incorrect aspect ratio.
For now, the best way I've found of working out the correct dimensions is to use a graphics program and add borders so that the finished pattern will adjust properly for both length and width. Any graphics program will do for this, but if you don't have one, I'll be happy to suggest two very powerful free ones (for Windows), at least one of which should do the trick. (I can't tell you how to use them, though...I use an ancient Paint Shop Pro from about, well, 1998. )
Sherry,
Oh, yeah, that Pipsqueak just looks soooooooo buttery soft!
If I'm understanding correctly...you used 1/2 skein for everything except the blanket? That's really not bad!
Argh, I'm so sorry the SS made the blanket much too heavy. I take it there's really not much choice with that particular stitch? It's so yarn intensive, I'd have to imagine it's heavy in pretty much any yarn. And I'm definitely not surprised you used 42 oz for a 35" x 35" blanket. That stitch uses a ton of yarn. It's gorgeous, but to make those scales, it requires a bunch of yarn for each one!
21 oz for the Pipsqueak blanket isn't too bad, IMO. Meh, you'd probably use just a tiny bit less for a not-quite-as-cute blanket in other yarns, so why not use something that's wonderfully soft?!
What weight of yarn is RH soft? If it's, say, sport weight, that might be better than SS. I love SS, but if you're going to make something that will never be used, it's not all that great.

GmaMiller,
Welcome!
I'm sorry to
say that capability isn't available at this time. Originally, the
freePatternWizard was designed to figure out the rows automatically
because we were afraid people were going to truncate or skew their
patterns and we wanted to preserve the correct aspect
ratio.
This will be addressed in a future
issue (unfortunately, I don't have a date as to when that will be
available), so for now the only way of compensating is to add
borders to your original image on the left and the right and then
keep working with it until the dimensions are as you want. I
apologize; I know this isn't pretty or a great solution, but until
the capability is available to designate the number of rows, that's
the best way to get to the dimensions you want.
And...a cat? Oooh, do tell! Not that I love cats or
anything (besotted).
Oh Raven, have no idea when I will get to that one. I
currently have 4 more graphgan wips, plus I just found out last
week that 2 relatives are expecting. That means 2 baby blankets,
for sure.
Good thing I'm retired. Vikings is one of the shows I watch
while I crochet. There just aren't enough shows like
that.
