New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Talarat,
Welcome! Smile
Please feel free to post pictures of your work...we love to drool! Wink
Sci-fi and fantasy are great for crochet...so much to choose from and always interesting and different. Kiss

De'Andrea,

I LOVE your cross stitch work! Kiss Your friend is soooooooooo lucky!

The frameless "frames" are amazing and look perfect. How did you tack down the edges before fringing? I learned a stitch for that once, but have no idea what it was called and couldn't do that again without knowing what the stitch was and how to make it. But I'm thinking now, after seeing your work, that I have some pieces where the fringing would look great.  I doubt there's enough room to cross stitch frames, but maybe a 2-cross-stitch-wide "frame" would work, or just a fringing stitch. I never framed a lot of my pieces back when I made them years ago because it was so prohibitively expensive and nobody in my area knew anything about framing cross stitch. Frown

But I love that "natural" look, with the fringed edges. Kiss

The branches hanging down over the horse's head are unusual...and sooooo beautiful. Kiss They add something very special to the piece! Kiss I can see the snowflakes that are falling in front of the horse's head...they're perfect. Kiss

I also disagree with your mom about cross stitch not being creative...obviously, you've made things that are VERY creative! Kiss I think the way you've combined things is absolutely genius. Kiss

I can't wait to see what you'll do with Chinese silk embroidery...I know it's going to be fantastic! Kiss What kind of subject will you try for your first piece?

You have such a talent...you should think about desginging your own cross stitch pieces to sell. Kiss (Maybe embroidery pieces, too, but I don't know how that would work.) You're soooooooooooo talented and I can't wait to see what you'll do next. Thank you so much for posting your cross stitch work (and giving me the idea of what to do with those old unframed cross stitch pieces!). Kiss

Hello everyone Smile

My name is Sherry and I have been crocheting for awhile now. I love to look around the internet at all the beautiful projects that people do.

I recently seen and  purchased the "Sunshine" pattern from Jody Pyott to make for one of my grand daughters for Christmas. I used to sing that song to her when she was a baby.Laughing Anyway I have it almost finished and I would like to incorporate her name into the blanket such as this lady has done.  (This is not mine) She has added a name and the border which is adorable.

But I have no idea really where to even start. I want to make sure it is centered properly and that it looks right.
I am hoping someone here can help me.

Thank you
Have a great dayCool
Sherry

Hi, and welcome!

I'll be creating some little videos beginning in a few weeks that will be tutorials of every feature of the program.

I know it all looks complex but you can get started with just a few clicks.

FYI, I'm in the process of correcting a bug with Peyote stitch using A4 paper size but the rest of the beading area is fine.

Let us know if you have any specific questions in the meantime and we'll try to help.

Terry

Welcome!  Smile

I'm not exactly sure of what you're asking, but I'll address the graphics part of your inquiry first.

You should use an image that is clear, but not just clear; it should be in a format that is a "better" one, such as gif or png.  The problem with jpgs is they're not really good quality images and the colors can smear, especially if you've done some work with the image in a graphics program.  However, you can't take a jpg, change it to a gif and be done with the problem.  A bad jpg will only become a bad gif.

Another problem is if you upload a small image and try to resize it larger, especially in a jpg, but also in any other format.  Or if you're trying to upload a large image and are resizing it smaller through the freePatternWizard.  This is not recommended; there are some free and very powerful graphics programs where you can resize your images first, before uploading.  The freePatternWizard isn't actually a graphics program, so it's not great at resizing, particularly going much larger or much smaller.

I would say that if you have an image that is, say, 200 pixels across, if you don't run it through a graphics program first, you'd be best off setting the freePatternWizard to make that image 200 stitches across, a one to one ratio, where resizing isn't necessary.

As for what stitches to use, if you're unsure of the colors, check to ensure the setting under #7 for PDF is "Symbols Only" or "Both Colors and Symbols."  Using "Colors Only" will be too difficult for the human eye to see, especially if your image has many shades of various colors.

If you're asking about crochet stitches, if you're in the US we have single crochet available for "standard stitch," which is called double crochet in the UK and Australia (which is why we call it "standard" instead of "single crochet," as that term is not appropriate for the UK or Australia).  We also have Tunisian stitches available.

If you're interested in filet, we've just introduced Filet Crochet as a Premier feature.
