New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

I too have a question along these same lines. I'm wanting to do an afghan project but the brand of yarn that I'll be using is Hobby Lobby's "I love this yarn" collection. When making a pattern, this brand isn't named. Is there a color conversion chart that I can use to choose the proper colors that I'll be needing? Or........... is that anyway to get the "I love this yarn" colors into the pattern making section?
Thanks so much!

mdory,
By all means...and thank you so much! I'm sure many people would love to find such a tutorial!
I posted one FREE embroidery book for Kindle for today...grab it before it's gone! (Note: you do not need to have an actual Kindle. If you have a smartphone, you can download a Kindle reader app for FREE...if all you have is a PC, you can download to your PC...and I believe there may also be a way now of completely bypassing any kind of reader app to read directly online - though please don't quote me on that, as I'm not sure. I find the PC reader to be quite decent for pattern content...since I don't own a Kindle, I can't say how well it works...but I would think a smaller screen would make patterns kind of difficult to read.)

Sherry,
Exactly! For instance, one time I was in JoAnn's and a clerk asked me if I knitted, because a customer needed help with a knitting question and the clerk knew nothing about knitting. And I was very happy to share my expertise...but the level of service simply can't be there if you have a broad-based craft shop where clerks are hired at any level of experience (or non-experience) and can't help customers with specifics of the things they're trying to purchase!
One of our local box stores has (or had) certain beads called Perler Beads; I had asked the store manager herself if they carried them, as I'd once seen someone purchasing them. She said no. Imagine my surprise when, several months later, I found they did indeed stock Perler Beads. They weren't sold with the beads, though. They were sold with the items that were geared a little more toward kids...the suncatcher kits, clay "eraser"-making kits, polymer clay kits, etc.
Another time I asked about stuffing pellets in another box store. I was told they didn't carry them. They sure did. But not in a spot where you would expect them. I found them with the novelty items...at that time they were selling pretty (and expensive - $10, ouch!) pincushions that looked like chairs, sofas, etc.
I think clerks at least should be knowledgeable about their stock and where in a store things are located.
I'm so sorry you had to close your shop. Glad you got out before the economy tanked. Sadly, more mom & pop shops are needed, but it's simply not going to happen. I see that specific crafts (and non-crafts) will be mostly limited to big box stores and online shops. I think the days of mom & pop stores in many different areas, not just crafts, are over for some time, and that's such a shame.
