Neave,
That's great that you don't pander to them, as that type of behavior might actually feed into their addicted behavior, so kudos to you for doing the right thing by them!  <3
LOL, though I said that wrong...I didn't mean the treatment they get...I was wondering what the percentage of drug-addicted celebrity stats are as compared to non-celebrities who become addicted.  My guess (and that's just a guess, as I have no way of knowing) is that proportionately, celebrities are far more likely to become addicts.  And if it's true, that might simply be connected to better access to drugs, since they tend to make a lot more money than most people.  I'm sure there are people all the time trying to sell or give them drugs; obviously it would be much more lucrative to find a celebrity than finding someone without the means to pay for drugs.  Sad  Probably the latter would do things to get the money, such as stealing, but someone with the money would have a lot more disposable income at hand for immediate payment.  Sad

Neave,
I'd never heard of him...how sad.  Sad  (Found info about him talking about his substance abuse.)  Of course, it does tend to happen to celebrities quite often...it would be nice if we could compare celebrity addictions to non-celebrity addictions, and see how much different the stats are.

Neave,
That's awful about the guys who let fame go to their heads.  Sad  No excuse whatsoever to shove around fans, particularly disabled ones.  Sad  So mean.  Sad
Sounds like Nicky and Shay understand and care very much.  Smile

Neave,
Wow!  Smile  Those numbers are very impressive!  Even more impressive, though, is that they sound kind and unspoiled, like fame hasn't gone to their heads. <3

Neave,
Oh, yeah, I can't imagine how they would be able to make it if they only worked on songs done first (and made famous) by other famous people!  :O
My absolute favorite recording artist, who is no longer around, sigh, is Dan Fogelberg.  Most of his music was written by him...but even he did someone else's song...Rhythm of the Rain by the Cascades, which was from the early '60s.  I have to say I like Fogelberg's version better, but that may also be because I heard it first.  Sometimes when I hear songs by a certain artist first, that first one is indelibly etched into my mind as the "good" one.
It doesn't even matter if the person doing the song the second time is...the same artist!  I listened to a version of a song that had originally been recorded by Dolly Parton's sister, Stella, and I didn't like the second version quite as much.  I did some research, only to find Stella Parton had re-recorded the song, as she apparently couldn't immediately get the rights to the first version!  So it was likely a case of needing to record a different version, which was just kind of meh compared to the first.  Thank goodness she was able to get the rights a few years later and put that one out on a CD and as an mp3 download!

when i said i hate cover versions i do but only when they are done as a duet but i can't stand duets between a solo artist and a band or a solo artist with another solo artist because there's always one side of the duet always trying to over power the other side of the duet vocally and that annoys me like hell like with westlife (that was the name shay and nicky's band by the way) they have covered extreme's more than words, abba's i have a dream, terry jacks's seasons in the sun, billy joel's uptown girl, barry manilow's mandy, mister big's to be with you, chicago's hard to say i'm sorry and if you leave me now,the eagles's desperado, jeffery osborne's on the wings of love, the difters's please stay, bette midler's the rose, lionel richie's easy like a sunday morning, leo sayer's have you ever been in love, cher's love can build a bridge, ronan keating's in this life i was loved by you, sarah mclachaln's in the arms of the angel, ugh i hated that inthe movie city of anngels and i hated it when the guys did it,phil collins's against all odds which was their first ever duet which they did with mariah carey ugh, they've covered diana ross's when you tell me you love me which they did as a duet with diana ross which i admit i do love that one duet, they have done a cover of air supply's all out of love and that was done as a duet with an australian singer called delta goodrem ugh they did one of the rat pack ones as a duet with a fan which track i can't remember lol they have done a cover version of if, (i can't remember the orignial artist though), they have done a cover version of still here(i can't remember the orignial artist though) they have done a cover version of bob carlisle's butterfly kisses, they have done a cover version of nothing's gonna change my love for you (i can't remember the orignial artist though) ,they've done a cover version of solitatire, (i can't remember the orignial artist though) they've done a cover version of bonnie tyler's total eclipse of the heart, they have done a cover version of evergreen (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they've done a cover version of michael buble's home which i prefer their version to buble's,they have done a cover version of you raise me up (i can't remember the orignial artist though) and that song has been covered to absolutely bloody death and i hate it ugh, they have done a cover version of day time friends night time lovers (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they have done a cover version of my private movie (i can't remember the orignial artist though) they have done a cover version of you see friends i see lovers (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they have done a cover version of you light up my life (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they have done a cover version of you are so beautiful to me (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they have done a cover version of the dance (i can't remember the orignial artist though),they have done a cover version of all or nothing at all (i can't remember the orignial artist though), they have done a cover version of the righteous brothers you've lost that lovin' feeling they didn't just do cover versions i'd hate for you to think they did only covers they also wrote their own songs swear it again,if i let you go,flying without wings, fool again,my love, what makes a man, soledad, angel's wings, close your eyes,no place that far, queen of my heart, bop bop baby, why do i love you, drive,to be loved by you, don't let me go,when you come around, when a woman loves a man, heal, obvious, lighthouse, unbreakable, love takes two, written in the stars, how does it feel, safe, what about now,i will reach you,no one's gonna sleep tonight,no more heroes, poet's heart, last mile of the way, beautiful world, wide open, over and out, she's back, hit you with the real thing, maybe tomorrow, change your mind and countless others

that sounds about right lol
beadmaster   [Dec 06, 2015 at 10:58 AM]
Neave,
I agree...poor Shay!  Sad
After all, being famous for being in a successful band doesn't make one superior to others.  It just makes them financially successful.  That shouldn't cause them to be mean and snotty!  We're all alike (LOL, even if some of the guys are aliens Wink ), so they should chill out and not act like idiots!
It's one thing I dislike about celebrities...the ones who are so full of themselves.  They don't have to be jerks.  That's why fame doesn't impress me.  I've been around celebrities here and there, and they're just like everyone else...but with more money.  That doesn't give them license to treat other people badly.

Neave,
True...it really is perplexing.  Razz  Maybe it's simply that the old songs are more easily used, not requiring a lot of money and time rewriting, as opposed to coming up with original material.
