Those styrofoam thingys are useful but....
|
They are NOT attractive. I spent some time yesterday cutting strips of old fabric and gluing them to the head form with white glue. So far so good. I intend to give it a couple of coats of spray polyeurethane and call it good.
I'm rather pleased with the improvement.

Oh, no...LOL, I wasn't making fun of the hat (have worn those types of hats myself many times)...I was mostly referring to the acrylic that horned in on the fun. But it does look like a Gilligan hat! (Hmm, I'm thinking I should see if I have one of those handy, because the standard "winter hat" keeps popping off of my head unless I wear my sweat jacket hood up over it to hold it down.)

I hope the fix works. Hmm...if not, is there some way to tear out the offensive acrylic and knit in some wool? Would that work with something that's already technically fulled? I imagine you'd have to knit in a lot of extra stitches, so maybe it won't work. Or could you knit a separate strip, run it through the washer and then join the pieces together, once you've removed the acrylic?
How frustrating.

Thank you for the incredible eye candy! I admit, I especially love the purple...it's one of my favorite colors. Oh, and what you did with the styrofoam head...that's cool! It's definitely an improvement. Those things are quite unsightly.
Grrrrrrrrrrr about that brown "pretender" yarn. Banish it! Off with its head! ;D (Hee hee, you're right, it does look like a "Gilligan" hat!)
That blue New Zealand yarn is incredible - love the color and I love the "different" shape you made with the coffee can.
About that last picture...wow! I had no idea the hats were that big before fulling...thank you for the perspective!
Amazing...absolutely, wonderfully amazing!
