The ribbing at the back is my own take. The original pattern is stockinette stitch which rolls up. The ribbing is to keep the back of baby's neck warm. Best part of this pattern is there's no seaming to be done. Hat comes off already together and the stitches are picked up on each side to make the ties. All that's left at the end is weaving in a few ends.

This is really cool! I love your innovation of the ribbing at the back...I agree, a traditional hat wouldn't keep the baby's neck warm, and that's very important during the winter months.
It's also cool how you didn't have to do any seaming...LOL, you know how I hate seaming! Another thing I like is that you used the Simply Soft on the inside and the Red Heart on the inside. I like the sturdiness of the Red Heart, but hesitate about using it for anything worn by a baby. It's not very soft! (I also cringe, remembering years ago it used to be about the only worsted weight available in an acrylic, so I made many baby items with it. Argh.)
