You're so lucky that color is second nature to you...I generally stay within the same color choices (LOL, boring!), so I really love seeing color used so beautifully and creatively. <3 The book sounds awesome, too!

First, yes, the masks are made to be used, the backs are felt lined to be comfortable against your face. I display them by running monofiliment between the eyes and hanging them on the wall when not in use.
Color is innate with me although I have done a bit of investigation in the area. I heartily recommend Poly Clay Color Inspirations by Lindly Huanani and Maggie Maggio to clarify your understanding of color. It's a great book, very informative and great for generating project ideas.
