Am going to work on several new projects and take pictures of them all at once.  The pom pom version is one of them.

Charlene,
IMO, you DEFINITELY have a winner!  Smile
I like the way you make the ridges...I can see where it would be tedious, but the results are WELL worth it, IMO.  They look so nice and professional.  A simple garter ridge wouldn't have that look to it.  It would look...ordinary, ho-hum.
I like the idea of a pompom on top!  Smile

Hi Melanie,
The ridges were made as follows......insert lifeline on the row I wanted, knit 6 rows, brought stitched from lifeline up and placed on 6th row and knit those two rows together.  It's the same thing I did on the tan-ish felted hats.  3 rows inbetween, place lifeline and knit 6 rows and brought the stitches up to the needles and knit them together.  Knit 12 rows and repeated the above.
It is a bit tedious and takes a bit longer but the results were pleasing.  Am thinking it would work well if doing those "tube rows" in contrasting color too.  Mom suggested that for the next one I put a pompom on the top, which I will do.  In any event, I hope I have a winner.  It's much easier than reforming three rows which is what appears to have been done on the picture she sent me.

Charlene,
This is really cute!  It looks like a fun hat for making AND wearing.  I'm curious to know how you made those garter ridges, now that I know you don't have a garter bar.  I guess they don't really look like garter ridges to me, anyway...I actually like them BETTER than garter ridges.  Are they...tucked or something?  Whatever it is, I like them better because they really stand out...but not too much.  They look very professional.  I'm guessing that wasn't actually your intent...but hey, it worked!  Smile  Seriously, this looks like something I'd expect to see being sold in an upscale, chichi boutique for a LOT of money.
