Here's the experiment. I did the band and then embroidered the red over the off white band. I probably should add another view of this one since this is the close up.
The brown hat is simply color changes on every row in the hat band area. The experimental hat was a white hat band and then I hung the hat front ways and with weights on the bottom to stretch it back out I embroidered with red yarn. The bars between each "snow flake" (bettcha you didn't know they were snow flakes did you) are cross stitched.
These are absolutely *beautiful*! I'd love to know how you accomplished the brown, green, red and gold one, with those amazing stripes. Is there some kind of special stitch which gives it the "ruffled" look?
Six of the seven hats I made. I forgot to photograph the last one, but that one needs a bit of work too. For some reason that one came out with a flat top. I'm going to experiment with that one.
