Debbie,

Feel free to share images of any work you've done...not just with loom knitting, of course.  We love to drool!  Wink

I don't have any pics of stuff I've already done - I gave them away as gifts ... but I'm tinkering with the idea of creating some dishcloth patterns for the loom to share with others.  I don't know when I'll be able to get to this, but it's something I've been seriously considering.

When I'm ready to go with this, I'll talk to the people in the looming circle{s} to see what they would be best interested in ... cloths with pics or different stitch patterns.  If we follow a theme, these can then be made into blankets.  Just a thought.

Debbie,

That sounds sooooo intriguing!  I never thought of looming to make dishcloths...and I really like to make dishcloths!  That's one of my favorite gifts to make, because people usually use sponges and are surprised to find the dishcloths work so much better...best of all, they don't deteriorate the way sponges do.  I can't tell you how many times those stupid sponges had pieces that somehow gouged themselves out, even when they were still quite new, like a day or so later.  Frown  They're not particularly cheap, but they're often cheaply made.

It's so much fun to give a set of dishcloths...I usually make mine a bit smaller than most dishcloth patterns say to make them.  I find that when something is 7-9 inches wide, it's too much to hold onto, so I end up putting soap on one spot and then the rest of the cloth is jsut kind of "there."  Frown  I think 5-6 inches is the perfect size.

One year, I made dishcloths for all of my husband's friends...well, they loved them.  And the one guy told my husband, "They really work!"  LOL, that was one of my favorite compliments!  Smile

True, the larger squares can be used for afghans.  LOL, though that brings to mind a retired dishcloth, used as part of an afghan.  Wouldn't that be bizarre?  LOL.

It would be very intriguing ... I'll do some more thinking on it ... I'm a bit behind at the moment due to my migraines again so these will have to be on the back burner for a while, but I'd really like to do something with this idea someday soon.

I will keep in mind the size issue ... possibly design them so you can do either dishcloth or for afghan.  I hadn't really thought about size before so I'm glad you mentioned it.

Debbie,

Oh, no, I hear you about the migraines!  Cry  I get terrible ones.  Cry  Hope yours are over soon.

Dishcloth or afghan sounds wonderful.  Also, there still are people who do prefer the larger dishcloths...though I'm not sure why, as they're just so unweildy, IMO.  The mass-produced ones from the stores are the same way.  Guessing they run anywhere from 8 or 9 inches on up!

The nice thing about crocheted dishcloths is how they're thicker than the cloth dishcloths that are sold in the stores.  So that's one reason I feel like large is just a waste of dishcloth, since there's so much real estate that's not used.  Maybe I'm different, but I generally use only an area for scrubbing where my hand is, not 9 or so inches across!

Hoping you'll be rid of those migraines by the next time you post.  Kiss

I totally understand.  The good thing about making your own is that you can adapt whatever pattern you're working to suit your own tastes.  I will keep this in mind when I get to that phase of my planning of projects.

Unfortunately, the migraines are why I lost my job first week of December.  I've been having headaches nearly daily for more than a year now.  The VA [where I get my medical care] has done testing, but they haven't found the root cause ... yet.  They told me that I'm allergic to pork and milk, but cutting these items from my diet hasn't really made much of a difference.  [Can't figure out why all of a sudden after 50+ years I would become allergic to these items??  Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, it was worth trying if it would have gotten rid of the migraines]The really bad ones like the one I am still battling on/off], usually last at least three days, then they just tape down to a tolerable headache, which I have most days.  On the days when they're not extremely debilitating, I try to work through them as best as I can; otherwise, I'm usually bed-ridden due to extreme nausea and extreme sensitivity to light, sounds, smells, etc.  Very frustrating.

They finally gave me a migraine medication which the pharmacist said was "really good" ... but it doesn't touch the pain ... at all ... When I was in the hospital [for the 2nd time in a year] last August for diverticulitis, the pain meds they gave me for the diverticulitis was really good at getting rid of the pain in my gut, but it didn't touch the migraine pain at all, either.  I just do what I can do and rest when I can't do.

Debbie,

Wow, if you could make something up to be "adjustable" so to speak, you could pretty much cover everyone's individual taste!  Kiss  Love that idea!

Oh, no, I'm so sorry your headaches are that bad.  Cry  I agree that it sounds a bit suspect...all of a sudden, you're allergic?  I know allergies can happen at anytime, but something with headaches that severe sounds very strange (though I'm not by any means a medical professional!).

Ugh, you're not kidding about any of that...the nausea, sensitivity to light, smells, etc.  Cry  My migraines can get that way, though I haven't had issues like that recently, thank goodness.  When I did get them that bad, I'd try to stop the headaches before they got worse.  My solution back then was caffeine, which was awful, as I have debilitating hot flashes, and the caffeine would work maybe 20-30% of the time if I was lucky, so not much.  Frown

The thing that changed is they gave me medication that really did help.  100%.  But it's crazy expensive and I still try to discourage a headache from starting before going for the crazy expensive stuff.  The only time I don't bother trying caffeine is if I have a big, busy day ahead.  The one day I was going out of town, woke up early in the morning with a horrible headache, took a pill and went back to bed.  That really did the trick...well, sort of.  I went back to bed because otherwise the meds make me sleepy, but then when I woke up there was a terrible pain in my neck/shoulder, and despite not having a headache, I was absolutely miserable, as I was in a place most of the day where I couldn't leave, couldn't get comfortable...for well over 8 hours.  Frown

But at least I didn't have the headache by then, which I absolutely would have had if not for the meds!

What meds did they give you, if you don't mind me asking?  (LOL, if it's none of my business, that's okay.  Wink)  I have something called Sumatriptan, which is the generic for Imitrex.  Even though it's the generic, it's still crazy expensive.  The "real" stuff used to be $100/pill...the generic is "only" $10/pill.  Now you see why I don't want to take it unless I really, really need it!

When I'm stuck somewhere that I don't have a pill with me, a headache can be really miserable.  If I don't catch it earlier on with either caffeine or a pill, it can last 3 or more days, like yours.  Cry  Sleeping that way is the worst.  It seems counterproductive to take a pill before going to sleep, since I'm not doing anything super critical, but then I have a really miserable night.  So I probably should take a pill if I have a bad headache before going to sleep, as strange as that seems!

Is it possible your triggers aren't allergy related?  I don't know the cause of mine...nobody's ever said, they've just given meds (which thankfully worked), but I've noticed that if I get stressed, clench my jaw, hold my shoulders up, etc, it can lead to a headache.  And I know they're migraines because this med is a specific migraine one, so I don't know if it's supposed to work for non-migraines (suspect not), but it's so far worked 100% of the time, whether I took it earlier on with the headache or much later on!

I hope they can find a great solution for you that will help get rid of your migraines.  Nobody should have to deal with that kind of awful pain.  Cry

Melanie,

I'm sorry you suffer from them too!!  I wouldn't wish them on any body!

The meds the VA perscribed is the sumatriptan ... they just don't work for me ... at all ... even if I try to catch it early on ...

they told me if one doesn't work, you can take another in 2 hours, but no more than 2 in 24 hours ... still no relief at all ... this past weekend the headache and nausea was so bad it made me physically ill.

I have tried the caffeine as well ... doesn't help either ... so frustrating.

Yes, stress can bring them on, or increases them too, so I've been trying 5to keep stress down to a bare minimum since I've lost my job.

I've been journaling to try to figure out what may be triggering them, but when you have a headache every single day, it's just a matter of how bad it is at any given time, it's hard to figure out.  Haven't really found anything yet.  Hopefully, they will figure it out soon.

I know exactly what you mean about sleep ... I've been having a terrible time sleeping because the pain wakes me up and keeps me from being able to get back to sleep.  More often than not these days, I'm getting about 2 or 3 hours of broken sleep a night.  Makes things difficult at times.

Debbie,

So with you...I wouldn't wish those horrible things on anyone, either!  Cry

Oh, no, the Sumatriptan didn't work?!  Cry  I'm so sorry.  After something like 15-20 years of having the stupid things (though not every day), finding this med was such a great thing!  I wish it worked for you...the relief was immense.

They told me the same about not taking more than 2 in 24 hours.  I take 1.  If that means it takes way longer for the headache to go away, I just put up with it.  I won't take 2, not as long as they're so expensive.

That's why I'll try the caffeine first, even at risk of hot flashes and lack of sleep.

Stress makes it soooooo difficult, and losing a job is very unhelpful.  Cry  And I can't agree with the people who claim, "I don't let things bother me."  I know people like that, and they do let things bother them.  It's that they're in denial about how much things really bother them.

I hope the journaling will help you to discover what's causing your migraines.  Kiss  Especially if a solution can be found!

You're right, though...when you journal pretty much the same thing every day - "Ouch, my head hurts!" it's not really a breakthrough, is it?!  Cry

And if you're not sleeping that's worse...although how anyone can sleep through one of those things is beyond me.  And did you notice that when you've slept for a bit, you're completely unrefreshed because you've been fighting that headache the entire time?  A few times I've fallen asleep with milder migraines (pre-medications), and though I was able to get a full night's sleep, it wasn't refreshing in the slightest.  I woke up more tired than if I hadn't gone to sleep.  Cry

Hang in there...hoping they find a solution for you soonKiss

Thanks Melanie,

Yes, even the little sleep I do get is not very restorative at all.  It wears you down for sure.

Yes, there are a lot of people who are denial about their [in]ability to let things go which leads to all sorts of physical and mental issues.

Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out what the cause of the migraines are so I can finally have some relief and quality sleep.

Debbie,

I'm sorry to hear that, but of course not surprised at all.  There's almost no chance of getting any kind of quality sleep, because that headache is still there.  Cry

Oh, yeah, people who claim nothing bothers them are only hurting themselves, sadly.  And the only way they find out about it is usually when something terrible has happened because of their denial...heart attack, nervous breakdown...all of the things they likely swore would never happen to them, because they had "no" stress.  Cry

Here's hoping you'll be able to discover what's going on soon.  Kiss
