Pattern Wizard...yay!

I love the pattern wizard! My littlest grandson loves Rhinos and I hadn't been able to find an afghan pattern that I really liked. So, I found a simple coloring book page and ran it through the wizard. VOILA!! Tweaked the print out a bit and the pattern looks pretty good.
I've only just started the project, but will definitely share it when I'm done.
Yay! Yay! Yay!

Joan,
Woo hoo! So happy to hear the Free Pattern Wizard has helped you!
it's really nice to be able to take a graphic you like and turn it into a pattern. I'm so glad you had a suitable picture of a rhino to turn into a pattern...and can't wait to see how it turns out!

I am so glad that you figured the Wizard out as I have tried SOOOOO many times to upload a black and white and a color photo of my husbands mother that passed away years ago to make into an afghan for my husbands sister, who is the only daughter and worshiped the ground that her mother walked on.
I can get everything right except for the coloring. I've tried both black and white and color but nothing is working out for me. Can anyone PLEASE help me out? Thank you in advance....Portia
Enjoy today because tomorrow may not exist!

Portia,
What is the problem you're experiencing?
Though I'm not sure what's going wrong, one thing that may help with the color photo is to change the palette to the "Stitchboard Basic Palette." The Stitchboard Full Palette is closer to a DMC (embroidery floss) palette, which has too many colors for normal yarns and are likely never going to be matched with yarn. The basic palette will offer a limited amount of colors, which is more in keeping with the limited colors of yarns.

So I put my pattern into the wizard thinking it would come out like the pixel type graph and it came out in a way I don't understand. Did I do some thing wrong?

NikNak,
Welcome!
I'm not sure what you're seeing. Is it a word chart? At no time do we offer word charts only...any options that have word charts will give you the choice of graphs and/or word charts.

Hello Pdevine15
Using color pictures we must considerer the quality, light and time. All these give to the picture shadows and color patinas and the program read them as colors.
Another consideration is the distance, when we see our .gif pattern so close we can see all the colors individualy, but if you take some distance and look at the .gif pattern we can see a complete picture.
For example, when you see some painting from the distance you can see a master piece, if you are close to the picture maybe you see just dots and dashes.
Before the wizzard magic, i sugest you take your picture with a professional digital designer and ask him for to clean the picture.

The problem that I'm running into is, the picture is black & white and I've tried every option on the wizard and the result either comes out with only 2 black colors when I chose b&w option or if I chose fewer colors and to use the basic color pallet then I'm coming out with green faces. If I chose grey scale then it's way off too. At this point I would pay someone to get this picture into a correct graph to be able to crochet by. I am wanting to make 4 of these afghans by Christmas this year. Please help!

pdevine,
Welcome!
Help is on the way. I've alerted Terry (Support) to your issue and will have him get back to you about this.

Hi, pdevine.
I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind sending a copy of your image so I can try it out. I might be able to give you some settings that work or, if I find that there's something in the program that is causing a problem, I can fix it.
If you wouldn't mind, I can send you an email to which you can reply and attach your image.
I always want to be sure the problem is not the program.
Terry
p.s. As I complete the testing a completely new re-write of the graphics engine that does all the work in the freePatternWizard, I can also tell you that it handles colors and operations differently and some existing problems will go away. But in the meantime I want to make any changes/fixes necessary if the existing program has a problem.
