I know how to crochet, thought maybe if I downloaded a picture of a crocheted item, your site could provide the instructions???
Thanks,
Janice

Janice,
If you're talking about the Free Pattern Wizard, the only thing it will do is take a photograph or clip art image and turn it into a pattern graph. It won't take, say, a photo of a scarf or sweater and make a pattern out of it - oh, don't I wish, though!

Melanie,
So it is exactly the same as it does for cross stitch. And if it were a flat object, and you were doing something entirely in any particular stitch, say sc, you would know how many sc of whatever color you needed in each row. OK.
I couldn't imagine how it could take a 3D object and be able to spout out a more complex pattern. Darn! But I was hopeful.
Oh well.
Thanks,
Janice

Janice,
That's exactly it!
Just as for cross stitch.
The program only makes patterns for sc...the "wips" list for it is pretty long, so I hesitate to bring up other stitches at this point, sigh.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if it could take a 3D object and plot it into a pattern!
Love the way you think, because I want that, too!

instructions on how this site works please

So, I'm new to the site. I figured out how to get the pattern, but it gives me these colors at the bottom that I can't tell what it is telling me. I'd love to get the exact colors it suggests because I don't want to have to figure it out the hard way or guess. Is there a place I can go to see what exactly it is suggesting? Thanks!

Christina,
First, are you talking about a chart that is colors only?
The best option is to use symbols only or colors and symbols. Only in that way will you get a chart where you can see what is what. The "colors only" onscreen option has far more colors than the human eye can discern.
Second, which palette are you using?
If you're using the Stitchboard Full Palette, you'll need to rerun your image through the freePatternWizard again, and instead choose "Stitchboard Basic Palette." The Full Palette option is lovely, but the colors are unsuited to crochet or knitting, as there are more colors than any yarn manufacturer carries. It would be impossible to match that many of them to any yarns at all, particularly not in the same weight
and
type of fiber, never mind the colors.
Once you have the Basic Palette and have chosen either symbols only or colors and symbols for your finished pattern, you should find that the colors aren't as nice, but they're far easier to match.

Thank you for membership! I'm trying to figure out which to order the blocks up against each other or separated by a spacer and I'm great at crochet but new to doing crochet he as graphghan.
Which would you suggest?
Thanks!

Welcome!
My apologies...I can be a bit dense sometimes, LOL. I'm not quite sure what you're asking. The stitches in a graphghan pattern bump up against each other and you work as in normal crochet, e.g., right to left, then left to right. Unless you're working Tunisian, and then depending on whether you're right handed or left handed, you'll work right to left for every row or left to right.
I just thought of what you might be talking about. If you're inquiring about whether or not to bump the pattern chart squares up against each other or letting them be spaced a bit when you're creating the pattern, that's a matter of personal choice...there's no right or wrong.
Hope that helps!
