I don't even wear socks, but I love to knit them, I love the heel and I even love kitchner stitch and I like the sock yarn and I love the little dpn. Weird I know.

The only weird thing I saw was "love the kitchener stitch". Wink

I'm not real crazy about it, but maybe that's because I haven't played with it enough to get good at it.

I've made a few pair of socks, a couple of pair were even for me Cheesy

, but I haven't worn any of them yet. I finished them in the spring after it was too warm to wear them, and it hasn't gotten cold enough yet for me to think about wearing wool socks.

I hope there is a person or persons out there who appreciate that you love to knit socks.

I haven't tried making socks yet, but I will get around to it one day. I love knee socks. Silly at my age perhaps, but there you are. Cheesy

Charlene, I don't think knee socks are silly at any age! LOL, I'm such a wuss about winter...knee socks sound nice and warm. When venturing outside, I used to wear men's thermal wool knee socks, purchased from the local hardware store, but the ribbing was terribly tight. (How on earth do men wear them?! My calves aren't close to as thick as theirs!)

(Cue mysterious music) I see a pair of hand-knit socks in my future... Wink

Pepper, I love sock yarns, too, especially the self-striping ones available nowadays. The random designs they produce are fascinating! I also like working with small dpns. I bought a set of metal sock knitters and have found many, many uses for them.

Marilyn, I'm not terribly comfortable with kitchener stitch, either.

I use the cold of winter to subdue my tropical moments, but hate hate hate having cold feet. I still use leg warmers in the winter time too. Looks like I have several more projects in the near future.

Ugh, cold feet are the worst! If I can warm my feet, I can usually feel warm. If my feet are icicles, I'm usually an icicle, too.

Our winter has been fairly mild, and there still have been days when my feet won't thaw! They say to put on a hat to warm your feet (LOL, on your head, as it sounds like I'm saying to put a hat on your feet), but that only works some of the time for me. Sad

LOL, maybe it's time to either put a hat on my feet... Wink

...or move to a warmer climate!

NE Kansas has been very mild. Some of the rest of the country is getting hit hard, but it sounds as if the Thanksgiving holiday was really nice for most folks.

The mental picture of wearing hats on one's feet is funny!

My daughter likes knee socks too. The pair I'm doing for her I did 10" before starting the heel. That's not quite to her knee because she's really tall, but I was afraid to go longer and run out of yarn. She tried on the first one and liked the fit so I kitchnered up the toe and started the second. Hope to have it done by Christmas.

I want to learn how to do argyle on the LK150 and try making argyles and striped ones. I haven't progressed far enough in the thought process to decided on what yarns to use. What do you like best? Is it always necessary to use sock yarn?

It was somewhat cold here, but not half bad for the end of November, so I'm not complaining! Last winter was sooooooo bad, with snow just about every day.

I like the self striping stuff, it's fun to see what will come next. I also used that flat foot yarn too. It's actually a big square that's machine knitted then painted and you unravel it to knit.

Flat foot yarn sounds interesting. Do the socks acutally match when you do that? You're right the self striping yarns are really fun. I have several little girls hats knit from that kind of yarn.

As for the argyle, I won't be trying that until I first figure out how to knit sox on my LK150 and then figure out how to simplify the pattern. There are suggestions out there for knitting the diamond shapes and embroidering or chain stitching the thin lines, (don't know what they're called...cross hairs lines?) If you give it a try let us see okay?

Please let us know how the aloe yarn works out...is it a wool blend? It sounds very, very comfy.

Aren't those self-striping yarns amazing? I've used them for doll clothes and have been very happy with the results. It's especially nice to be able to make the same item more than once, and with self-striping yarns, it's almost like knitting a totally different pattern the second and third time around!

I've read about those, but haven't yet tried them. Do you have to "relax" the yarns, or do they relax by themselves when unraveled?
