Alison,
Wow, that table topper looks so lovely and complex!
How do you keep from going cross-eyed when working so small?
The snood is beautiful, too...I know it's crocheted, but the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw it was tatting...it looks tatted!
Your gift recipients are
very
lucky indeed!

Alison,
What gorgeous work!
I'll have to admit to a bit of jealousy here, my eyes and hands won't allow me to work with the threads anymore.

Thanks. I'm really pleased with the way both pieces are turning out. The lacey thing was quite difficult at first because I haven't used linen thread before and it's quite stiff to handle. I'm used to it now though and loving the results.

Actually, that linen thread looks pretty amazing! It looks like it holds the stitches well...I don't think cotton would do that!

It has it's problems, there is some variation in the thickness of the thread, it's very splitty and as I said, it's quite stiff. You can't pull it about when working up as you might with cotton, but it does look amazing once blocked and will soften beautifully when it's been washed. You're right too about the stitch definition, it's fabulous and totally unforgiving, it shows up any tiny errors. Sigh.
I found it when I took a fancy to try linen thread, but wanted colour (as opposed to ecru/beige/grey/blah) and couldn't find a UK supplier. The one I did find, through Etsy is in Lithuania - briliant, fantastic colours and reasonable prices. Yay. I'll definitely work with this thread again, and have my eye on a number of colours from the range. Greedy, greedy, greedy.

Wow!! Really stunning work! I definitely like the lace topper, respect for your patience and perseverance! But since my absolute favorite color is green, and you chose two beautiful shades of it, I immediately fell in love with the scarf and have to declare it as my favorite!!

Oops! That's my camera I'm afraid, the colours are actually more teal than green. The yarn is Knitpicks Palette 4 ply (Calypso and Caribbean) from Great British Yarns which I adore because it's so light and soft, and works up beautifully. It's a good price too with an amazing range of colours. I've use this yarm quit a few times for commissions and it never disappoints. I should get a marketing commision from them, I sound like a sales pitch.

Alison,
Argh, the thread sounds like a total pain to work with...the splitting would really try my patience...but I do think the results are worth it.
And you're the
only
one who can see the errors...
trust me
. Nobody else will ever know. Even if you point it out, they'll look at you like you have two heads!
Mistakes? No, those are features!
So
with you on the ecru/gray/beige threads. I really dislike finding some great thread, only to discover it's only available in the most unimaginative shades.
I love nice colors! LOL, so I don't think you're greedy at all.
What other shades can you get? Love the burgundy you chose for this particular project (is that the correct color?).

It's a sort of Dark Brick/Oxblood red, so yes, burgundy is pretty close.
I got the linen from YarnStories on Etsy and there are loads of shades, colourpacks and weights available. If it hadn't been for my recipient knowing what she wanted I'd likely still be trying to choose.
If you succumb to temptation, mention me, I get a wee bonus if you do... I think, unless you're already a member. I'm fairly new to Etsy so I'm not certain how it works.

Alison,
Wow, loving those color choices!
I admit to not knowing much about how Etsy works, either. I think I did join some time ago, though.
What a
find
on those linen colors! Now I want to find something to make to have the excuse to buy!

Yup, that's the hard part. Of course, you could buy one to make Christmas decorations/cards for your friends...
