Skater's dress
December 15, 2009 at 10:05:18 AM
One of these days I'll finish the skater's outfit I'm in the process of making for my 14" hard plastic Arranbee Nanette. She was made in the 1950's, and may originally have been a skater doll, I'm told, because her hair was in braids. As I understand it, dolls with braids at that time were typically skater dolls. Well, I had a pair of vintage ice skates for her, and I got a Mary Hoyer knit/crochet pattern and began making this outfit. The dress and panties are done, but I still need to finish the hat and mittens. Let's see if I can insert the photo here:
Woo-hoo! Looks like it worked!
I really wanted to trim the dress with angora yarn, but couldn't find any in the shade of dark green I wanted, so I opted instead for a dark green chenille. I think it gives the dress a velvety look to the trim, and I'm happy with it. I really need to finish the hat and the mittens, though...

Beautiful
work!
The dark green chenille trim works wonderfully...I agree, it makes the outfit look velvety. Can't wait to see the hat and mittens!
What a great thing to make for this lovely vintage doll.
Your choice of colors is so nice, and the outfit flatters her! I can picture her skating on a frozen lake.

Yay! I'm sure she's most appreciative, especially with this cold weather.
