Christmas is done, what's next

Whooo, I'm glad to have my Christmas knitting done with. Now I'm back to my regular stuff. I work a few rows on several projects every night. It takes me forever to finish anything, but I really enjoy the variety. Tonight I'm working on a honeycomb afghan in a lovely wool, silk, bamboo blend, a scarf out of malabrigo, a sweater in alpaca, a scarf in angora wool and nylon, a baby sweater in acrylic, and the bernat KAL afghan in acrylic. what's everyone else working on?

Yikes, that's what I call serious multi tasking.

I'm making the button plackard for the infamous pink sweater, making buttons (I love those little kits) for a vest my nephew wears, rearranging my knitting room, working on self lined slippers for three of my favorite men and getting ready to make more hats.

I'm working on a bed for the kitty, a hat for my brother, I've got some yarn to make some socks for myself, there's a hat pattern I'd like to make for myself and I have a couple of sweaters I'd like to take apart in order to re-use the yarn. I might make myself a neckwarmer, too.

I made a kitty bed last year. It did not turn out at all like I expected but the cat still loves it.

Do tell...where do you get your kitty bed patterns? I'd like to make one for my special girl. Found one at a hardware store sale, but she doesn't seem to cotton to it and am thinking of bringing it back...if I can replace it with one I make. Any suggestions?

Wow, you all are such prolific knitters!

I'm about to start a cute hooded teddy bear coat. Argh, and the blue acrylic "no dye lot" yarn, of which I have two skeins, are both two different dye lots. They seem pretty close, but not exactly the same shade. Sad

Okay, Charlene, resident expert on non-matching "no dye lot" dye lots...do you think it would look mighty terrible to make the back piece out of one skein and the two fronts out of the other? (Yes, I'm anal retentive and have to be sure to knit them all at the same time, thus the need for two skeins.) LOL, not that the teddy bear will really care (nor will the other bears make fun of him)...but... Grin

Hey, it's awfully cold this winter, and the poor guy's pants and bunny slippers keep falling off! At least a coat will help keep him toasty.

The best suggestion I've come across is to switch out the yarns as is you're knitting stripes. That way it will look as if you MEANT to do that.......which we all know you did. The effect would be subtle and probably look really nice. Cheesy

As for the kitty bed, would it be possible to knit a cover for it? Kitty might like sleeping on something with your scent on it.

Hee hee! Though I'm not sure I'm up to the task of switching yarns and knitting three pieces at once...LOL, I don't know that my brain can handle it! Maybe I should just chalk it up to "well, he's just a teddy bear and won't mind"? Grin

Thanks...I could try that...she did sniff and sniff, walked partially up on it, but no dice when it came to using it. Fussy little girl!

Kitty bed-- I'm kinda making it up as I go. I'm not sure how far the yarn will go, so I'm not really sure what it will look like. Well, I know it's an ugly color and the yarn is yucky. It's a Red Heart variegated that's very stiff and scratchy. I know I don't want to wear anything made out of it. My kitty didn't seem to mind the "pad" thing I made her last year out of some stiff and scratchy Red Heart Strata yarn.
I will have to try to make a picture when I get the bed finished. And wouldn't it look cute if I could catch the kitty sleeping in it?

As for your girl being fussy, maybe she didn't like the new bed because it smelled like the store. Does she have a "blankie" that she sleeps on/with? If so, try putting it in the new bed. Just a suggestion. I really have no idea what I'm talking about. Grin

I would think Red Heart would be perfect for a cat! It's definitely too rough for people, but cats do have that extra layer of fur we don't.

I made a kitty bed from the Kitty Pi pattern on ravelry. It's made from wool and felted. I took my cat a little while but she sleeps in it a lot now. She has a favorite treat called kitty kissers (freeze dried liver) and I would leave a treat in her bed initially so she'd go up to it and try it out. It probably took a week or two for her to claim the bed.

That's a great idea, to put treats in the bed to coax her to use it. Wish I'd thought of that one.

The cat did finally try out the "new" bed the other day. She even took a nap in it. So I guess I don't have to make one after all! (Though I probably will at a later time, so will keep the info.)

Well, the kitty bed is done. Before I was finished with it, there was a couple of times that the kitty stopped in my lap and did the 'kneading' thing, so I was pretty sure the bed would be a hit.

The bottom of the bed is a knitted circle. I knitted the sides the first time, but it just didn't seem sturdy enough so I ripped back to the where I started the sides. Then I crocheted around and around 'til I ran out of yarn. It's kind of a snug fit when the kitty is in it, but she seems to like it. The sides still seem a little floppy, so I'm thinking about crocheting an outer layer and joining the 2 layers at the top. IF the kitty lets me have it for that long. LOL

Hubby snapped a photo, but I'm not sure if he transferred it to the computer yet.

Have you thought of either double knitting the sides or using Tunisian crochet? That may shore it up.
