cross stitch please add a landscape option to paper sizes

Terry,

Making larger pieces, I would appreciate more stitch width on my printout.

Tried A3 (the widest option) but then it is too long to print on one page, and the 2nd page loses the 10 ct headings.

Thanks, Janice

Hi, Janice.

I had previously upgraded your account so you can make patterns up to 300 across.

Are you asking about something different specifically regarding printing?

The actual print function would be up to whatever pdf viewing software you use.  And printed patterns generated on the screen would be a function of your browser.

Please let me know more about what you're trying to accomplish.

Thanks.

Terry

Terry,

Don't know if you do cross stitch, but most people stitch across rows going left to right on the first pass, and then cross the stitches coming back.  So, a wider chart printout is more important than a longer printout.  Since Letter  displays a chart on one page as 70 stitch height by 50 stitch width, it would be convenient if there was an option to rotate the letter so a chart could be 70 stitches width by 50 stitch height.

In Section 7 (Select Output Format & Options) for PDF Paper Size, the options are to print on Letter, A3, ledger etc.

The maximum stitches it will print across a sheet of paper is 80 stitches w if using A3
(110 h x 80 w).  The downside is that most home printers print on letter size paper, either portrait or rotated to landscape, and some print on legal paper as well.

If you offered a rotated letter, then when I am printing out a chart of 300 stitches wide (thank you for updating me to 300 st width), I could do more stitching before moving on to another page.

If it would be an easy add, great, if not, no big deal.

Thanks,
Janice

Hi, Janice.

If I understand you right, you'd like it if the program supported being able to turn the pdfs on the side (landscape).

If so, this is coming in a future update.  It will then support both portrait and landscape layouts.

So A3 in landscape would then have 420mm across instead of down.

"A3" paper is 297mm across x 420mm high.

In the meantime, there are a couple other paper sizes that come close to what you're talking about (rotated).

"C3" is 458mm across x 324mm high.

"Tabloid" is 431mm across x 279mm high.

I do see that many of our freePatternWizard members are using the "Tabloid" format so maybe this is a reason.

Anyway, there will be an option to turn all formats on their side once I implement a landscape format.  Not sure yet if that'll be coming in the next batch of updates but I think it will.

Terry,

Tabloid is not an option in my dropdown menu.  But I went online to a site that lists paper sizes, and they show "Tabloid" as being 11" h by 17" w, since other users have a tabloid option, can you give it to me as well?

Not sure I understand, what is the greatest number of stitches wide that the system currently supports in a printout?  And what is it's "name"?

It's great that you will be rotating many sizes in the future.

Thanks,
Janice

Oops!

Guess my age is catching up to me! Laughing

I was thinking "Ledger" format that many people are using.  Oh well.

AND, I did not add "tabloid".  Tabloid is 11"h x 17"w (or 279mm high x 431mm across)

I'll add "tabloid" format shortly after I do the next update (word charts).

In answer to your question regarding the format with the highest width, I just scanned the program's internal paper size chart.

CURRENTLY, size "C4" is the widest.

I'm going to review my internal numbers.  The "C" sizes may or may not be correct.  I'll let you know in a day or so.  But today, "C4" is the widest.

So as I recheck the "C" paper sizes I'll probably also add the "Tabloid" size, in which case "Tabloid" will be included in the next update.  Not sure yet.

I'll keep you posted.
