Help with making a scarf and hat
September 5, 2014 at 6:47:42 AM
Is there any way to adjust the height on the pattern? It keeps giving me 100.
Thanks

Welcome!
Your pattern's height is dependent on the width of your pattern. When you make a pattern, it takes your designated setting for the width and then calculates the height. The reason you can't change that number is because it would skew the pattern. If you tried to make the pattern higher than it should be according to its aspect ratio, your image would look too elongated and you probably wouldn't like it. If you instead tried to make the pattern shorter than it should be according to its aspect ratio, your image would be too wide.
This is why the system automatically adjusts for your photo or artwork's aspect ratio. Because skewing it wider or longer would be unappealing to most...unless someone was trying to purposely stretch an image one way or another, and in that case, it would probably be better done through graphics first, to obtain the exact desired result.
Hope that helps!

Thank you so much.
I'll try resizing my image first or finding a smaller image to use. I'm so glad I found this page.

You're very welcome!
Yeah, unfortunately, graphics are so persnickety about certain things. Stretching a picture either way can make it look odd or even completely unrecognizable. But if you can mess with it offline, you can hopefully find something that works!
BTW, if you're looking for free software for resizing images, here are two programs that people say are very powerful:
http://www.gimp.org/
http://www.getpaint.net/
I can't speak for those programs other than what people have told me because I'm using an incredibly ancient version of Paint Shop Pro that probably hasn't been used since the late '90s!
