Regarding artwork choice in wizard
November 14, 2012 at 12:53:29 PM
Hello
I am trying to create a pattern from a photo of giraffes. I would like to see the pattern as artwork instead of gradual. The wizard does not allow me to select this option. Could you please help? Thank you so much

Faith,
Hi, and thanks for your excellent question!
The artwork option is currently disabled due to a technical issue. It will eventually be corrected and re-enabled.
However...you actually probably don't want to use the artwork setting, anyway. That's not for photos...long story short, it takes "like" colors from computer-generated artwork and tries to select one color for all of them. I'm guessing (as I'm not a programmer) if it were available, it would make the colors from a photo kind of "blocky."
If you're still wanting to use the artwork option, as perhaps you'd prefer a more blocky effect to make the photo look more "artsy," the best I can say is to keep checking back.

Hi. You can also try a few things...
1. Try setting the number of colors. As you reduce the number, it will start doing a similar thing and combine similar colors.
2. Manually select colors and choose only the ones you want in the final output and it will adapt the pattern to your colors.
3. Try changing the contrast setting and this will also reduce the number of shades.
Otherwise, in an upcoming version I will have the corrected "Artwork" setting enabled. The function does actually work, it's just there's a bug in the way it displays the pattern key. Because of this, I have temporarily disabled it.
I hope to get back to the Patternwizard in a month or two but have been busy bringing up new functions at the web site.
Thanks again.
