PDF charts (with symbols)

We've had a question about creating charts with symbols (e.g., PDF charts).  Please note that you may only create a PDF chart, meaning a chart with symbols, if you're a Stitchboard member.  (Registration is free!)

Hi, and thanks for enjoying the program.  Once I get a bit more caught up, I'm going to add many new features to the Pattern Wizard.  Right now I have my hands full with a pretty much complete site update.  This will start over the next few days.

Anyway, I'm first wondering if you're logged in when you try to create a pdf chart.

Once logged in, you should be able to look in section 7 and set the Output format to "Pattern in Pdf format".  Then the pull-down option next to that allows you to set "Colors Only", "Symbols Only", or "Both Colors and Symbols"

If you don't get these options and you're logged in (you see the "Hi, maggiemay." at the page top), please let me know and I'll try to figure out what else might be the problem.

Thanks again!

Terry

First, sorry about the delay.  I was bringing the new Community live.

Ok.  Let's figure this out.

When you go to the PatternWizard, without doing anything else, look at section 7.  You should see a drop-down box under the word "Output".  Clicking on this should allow you to choose "Pattern in Pdf format".  As soon as you choose this option, you should see a new drop-down box appear next to it below the title "Pdf:".  The box should show "Colors Only:".  Clicking on this box should show "Colors Only", "Symbols Only" and "Both Colors and Symbols".

Should look like this:

If the "Pdf" box doesn't appear when you select "Pattern in Pdf format", then it seems like Javascript might be disabled... however, a bunch of other options would not work if this is the case.

So let me know if you do get the new drop-down box when you select "Pattern in Pdf format"  (At that point you should have 3 drop-down boxes in the top row of section 7).

Terry

Wow.  Hmm.  Ok, let's back up one step.  And I'll work with you until we get this working on your end! Smile  Let me just collect some basic information...

What browser are you using? i.e. Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari...

Are you using a mobile device such as iPhone or Android?  iPad?  Laptop or desktop?

If you click on the words "Pattern on screen" in section 7, does anything happen?

Finally, in the upper right corner of the screen, do you see a "Login" or "Logout" button?

This will hopefully get us both on the same page and I can try to figure out what's up.

I am using Internet Explorer 8 on a desktop.  I select the output as PDF format.  And leave the Grid in section 7 as every 10 stitches.  I see a logout button in the top right corner.

Hi again.  Ok.  I just made a handful of changes (there were definitely 2 errors on the page) but I don't think these relate to your problem.

I suggest just to be sure, please try bringing up the page again, without doing anything else, go down to section 7 and change the first "Output" dropdown to "Pattern in Pdf Format".

Let me know if you then see a new "Pdf" dropdown box show up and the "Grid" box moves over to the right.

The information you gave earlier has eliminated many things and there are really only a few possible causes remaining.  Like I say, hang in there and we'll figure this out.

Thanks.
Terry

Hi Terry,

I did exactly as you directed and I do not get a new PDF dropdown box show up and the grid box does not move to the right.

I am so anxious to start using this program....

Ok.  So here's a test... I just created a test version of the freePatternWizard for you to try.

You can find it by clicking on this link:

/pages/pattern/freePatternWizard228.php

The only thing I've changed for this test is section 7.  Please click on the "Output" dropdown and change it to "Pattern in Pdf Format".  Let me know if you then see the "Pdf" dropdown box (which will contain the options to do symbols and colors and symbols.)

You don't need to do a chart yet but if this solves your problem, I'll update the rest of the program and then you should then be good to go.

So for now, let's just see if you can see the Pdf dropdown when you click on the Pattern in Pdf Format.

Good luck!

Terry

Ok.  The good news is that I just placed my Internet Explorer V9 into V8 emulation and I do see what you're talking about.

I'll address it and will have a solution asap.

Good news.

I corrected the problem.  This problem would have actually shown up in a couple versions of Internet Explorer and Chrome.  For example, it worked fine in Internet Explorer 9 but not 8.

Problem fixed.

Should work! Laughing

By all means let me know about any other issues you find.  I'm hoping to get to the new version later this year.  This will include retouching capabilities and lots more.

Thanks for your patience and have fun.

Terry
