I have a lefty question
February 12, 2025 at 4:09:29 PM

Hello!
I'm using the pattern wizard to make a crochet tapestry pattern. I'm left handed, so I clicked the 'I'm left handed' button, but I've noticed that there isn't a difference in the pattern with the button clicked or not clicked. I know that following patterns the 'right' way results in whatever it is that I'm crocheting as a tapestry being mirrored. I could just use an app or something to mirror it but I was wondering if there's anything I should do differently to get the left handed button to work? Smiley

Amanderanoranges,
Welcome! Smile
We had a discussion about it, and your pattern should look identical to right-handed patterns, not be a mirror image. The instructions should simply tell you how to do this with left-handed instructions.
The display of the pattern itself is very subtly different - hardly at all different. With a word pattern, it looks identical, but the rows are reversed from right to left or left to right.
With a chart only, the numbers were different...and that was it. The chart itself otherwise looked idential.
For instance, the test pattern I created for left-handed showed the top number on the left to be one row down on the chart, row number 147, and 148 is the top right number. For the right-handed pattern, the 148 appears on the top left, and 147 is on the second row down on the right. But the pattern looks exactly the same, other than the row numbers, because the look of the pattern should be identical in both places, since you're making the same pattern, you're just doing it in reverse of someone who is right handed.
If you try to generate a chart both ways, are you seeing the numbers that way? If you try a word pattern, can you tell if each line is reversed?
As far as I know the "left handed" button is working, but if you're looking at numbers that are identical in both charts and/or word charts that don't reverse from left to right, then yes, we need to know how to duplicate what you did, so we can hunt down the problem. Smile

Amanderanoranges,
You're so welcome! Kiss I know, this is some really freaky stuff, trying to figure out reversed/not reversed, and at first we also were wondering what was up and why the pattern wasn't reversed, lol. Eventually, we realized no, it shouldn't be reversed...but our brains were saying it should! Laughing
