Hi, I'm Kath, new to Stichboard :-)

I want to make a graphgan of a band's album cover image. Can I do that here? I don't know how the copyright and other legal stuff works.

Excellent question!  Smile

The copyright question is a sticky wicket...you're really not supposed to use a copyrighted image to create any kind of derivative work, short of getting permission to use it.  Understand, I'm not a lawyer, so am not qualified to advise anyone legally, but laws are pretty strict about using copyrighted images sans permission.

I was led to believe that if the image was in the public domain the image could be used for personal purposes as long as the item was not sold as your image, meaning you claimed the copyright. Was I led wrong?

As far as I know, you're correct; as long as you don't claim the copyright as your own, you're free to use a public domain image for personal use. Kiss
