Colors don't match
August 9, 2015 at 6:33:42 PM
I'm trying to make a graph with and the colors will not match. The graphic I'm using is a yellow duck with a black eye and an orange bill.
No matter how many colors I choose for my graph it comes out looking nothing like the original graphic.
I've attached the image. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gayle

Colors don't match

Gayle,
I'm not sure what you're getting re: colors, but one thing I do know of is a problem with jpg files. These files don't have "true" colors...colors will tend to be mottled and smudged and thus, won't remain true.
Better file formats for "true" colors are pngs and gifs. But if you're going from jpg to one of those, you likely will still end up with colors that aren't exactly what you want, meaning you may have to clean up the image manually. I know that's not exactly ideal, but again, the problem is caused in the first place by the inefficiency of the jpg format.
For instance, have you noticed that in the image you attached, the bill has a faint "w" in that part of the image? (You may have to move around so that your vision is at an angle, but it
is
visible.) Unfortunately, something like that can help throw off the result. It's not only in the beak...that's just the most obvious issue. If you import this image into a graphics program and use the program's eye dropper to mouse over only, say, the yellow, if you watch the RGB numbers, you'll see they vary constantly.
Because the jpg format is so common, something like this is rarely noticed until you need an image that has solid, true colors.
Since the image is fairly simple, you may be able to lasso the various areas and apply a flood fill to make them solid colors, then save the results out as a gif or png.
If you don't have a graphics program, there are two very powerful ones for PCs:
gimp (
http://www.gimp.org/
)
and
paint.net (
http://www.getpaint.net/
)
If the problem you're experiencing is other than the colors not being "true," then please explain what's happening, as I'm only able to guess at this point.
