hello...I'm Joan
February 4, 2014 at 5:58:16 PM
Hi, I've poked through this site a bit and like what I see, so far. My husband and I are retired and we are 6 months into our full-time RV adventure. I've crocheted since I was a young girl. Nothing fancy. Mainly used it to get into my "zen" mode after hectic days. Simple stitches with lots of color. Now that I have more time on my hands, I may start doing a bit more complicated, but still don't want to think too much...hah!
One thing I'm interested in is finding projects that will be good for boys. I have three grandsons (2 years/10 years/18 years). An RV can hold only so many afghans!
Looking forward to poking around a bit more!

Joan,
Welcome...so glad you like our site!
RVing sounds like a blast...do you have a strict schedule that you keep to, or are you wandering around aimlessly, taking in the sights?
For boys' patterns, I have two favorite Web sites that are about nothing but
free
patterns (they make their money by selling their own yarns, which you of course don't have to buy to download their patterns!).
The first one is Garnstudio...you can start at their home page, or directly here to their US English page for patterns:
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/kategori_oversikt.php
There's a nice search that will help you locate boys' patterns or mens' patterns (for the 18 year old).
I can get lost on the Garnstudio site for hours!
Also good is Lion Brand's site. If you're registered, you can simply start downloading, if not, registration takes but a minute or so and is
well
worth it:
http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternIndex.fcgi
You can also "search all patterns" from the search bar at the top!
I have to purposely go to either site and find exactly what I want, then leave the site, or I look up at the clock and notice at least half a dozen hours have passed! Both sites are
extremely
addictive!
Feel free to poke around our site all you want, and if there's anything you'd like to suggest, please let us know!

Thanks for the welcome!
We do a little of both...wander and schedule. We have a seasonal spot where we "live" in Michigan to spend time with our friends and family for 5 to 6 months out of the year (summer, of course). We also have family in Baton Rouge (but only our oldest son and his family), so we spend a few weeks a year in that area. Our doctors are in Dallas, so we spend a total of one or two months there getting checked "under the hood" (hah!). Then we spend the cold times southerly. We're trying to find were we might want our summer home. But it will all be in an RV of some type, don't want to move to a sticks and bricks until we can't move anymore and then someone else will take care of it.
We are currently in Kemah, TX (south of Houston), nice area and on the short list for a possible winter home.
Thanks for the info regarding patterns. I'll sure look around.

Joan,
That sounds exciting, to plan to go to certain places, and then wander other times! I would definitely agree about Michigan in the summer...their winters are horrendously cold.
LOL at "under the hood"!
I would also spend times of the year when it's cold in warmer climates. I hope in TX you're not getting the extreme cold some parts of Texas are!
This winter is dragging along with the cold.
I hope you find exactly what you're looking for pattern-wise!
Those sites are
so
handy for finding pretty much
anything
for free!
