old dog, new trick

Hello, my name is Greg and my youngest daughter taught me how to crochet. I've made a couple of granny square blankets. Really the only thing I can crochet decent is the granny square, because I found a pattern with a diagram and when I saw the diagram it clicked.

Thanks, for listening,
Greg B.

Greg,
Welcome! Smile
That's wonderful how you learned to crochet from your youngest daughter - how kind of her to teach you. And kudos for making granny square blankets! They're so versatile and can be fantastic for scrap projects or just plain mindless crochet, when you want to let your mind wander (or watch TV, lol), while keeping your hands busy.
It's so fascinating how seeing the granny square diagram helped you! My thought is that perhaps your brain deals better with crochet diagrams rather than written patterns. And if you ever want to branch out beyond the granny, there are granny square variations (unfortunately, not all designers chart them) to keep you busy. There's a sunburst, a hexagon (still using the granny stitch) and there are solid "grannies" (some of those aren't really grannies anymore, but they're still called grannies, lol, no idea why).
And if you prefer conventional grannies to variations, there's always the option for continuing to make granny square blankets, which no doubt will be treasured by your family members and friends for years! Kiss
