Welcome...great name! 

My suggestion is to try something smaller than a large item like a blanket for your first project.  If you're still new to crochet and new to graphing as well, it may turn out to be a very daunting task to complete in only 7 weeks, particularly something with a lot of detail such as a graphed design.

A crochet graph is read bottom to top, right to left for the first row and all odd numbered rows, left to right for the second and all even numbered rows.

I've been crocheting and knitting for over 40 years and when I attempt something new, I do exactly the same thing as I'm suggesting here...I start small (because if I don't, I'm usually sorry, LOL).  When I wanted to learn bead crochet a few years ago, after a laughable attempt with seed beads and thread, I started fresh with yarn and pony beads, instead of the small seed beads.  The idea of making something as large as a beaded bracelet was unthinkable until I'd mastered enough bead crochet to feel comfortable!
