Help making a...
January 11, 2014 at 10:20:07 AM

Hi, I am new to seed beading and need some help, I am trying to make something 50 tall and 50 beads wide, how to I do it? I am using a 4" big eye needle, and 11/0 seed beads, but it won't go through all 50 beads... can someone point me to a thread or something on making a large seed bead design??? Maybe something on sewing them to make it bigger? Thank You. azseedbeader

Hi, I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure which technique you're using.  Are you talking about loomwork?  Or perhaps bead embroidery?  Smile

If the problem is that you're working with a loom and you can't fit all of the beads for a row on one needle, take a look at this video...this piece has over 100 beads in a row, and it looks to me like the beads for a row are threaded onto a long thread, then placed across the work and finally, anchored down to the loomwork in small groups, a few beads at a time from the looks of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdp7aJBmdDU

So if you're trying to loom bead, it looks to me as if you don't have to actually fit all of the beads in a row on your needle at once...you can add them with a long thread and anchor them onto the loomwork in small groups.  Smile

Please do clarify, as I'm guessing I'm totally wrong here!  I've only done off-loom techniques, so if this is about loomwork, I can't claim to be a big expert.  While I do own a very, very old loom, I've never had the opportunity to use it Embarassed, as off-loom techniques have served me well.  Smile

You're very welcome!  So then does that resolve the question for you, I hope?  Smile  Looks to me like your needle can be smaller than the width of what you're beading on the loom, so no worries about finding a super long needle!  Smile
