What a great idea to use your time at home to be productive with your hooking.
Nothern Michigan...upper or lower peninsula? I hear it's beautiful in the upper peninsula and spots north in the lower peninsula. I was in Port Huron many years ago on a trip, crossing into Canada. We chose Port Huron figuring Detroit would have a lot of traffic. Port Huron definitely didn't have a lot of traffic!
Very glad you've found us! I can honestly tell you there's always something to learn with crochet. That's one of the joys! I've been crocheting for over 35 years (which means before I was born, because I'll only admit to being 25 years old) and still learn new things!
Yes, you can edit your photo, though you'll have to use a graphics program for that. If you're on a PC I can give you the links to two very powerful (and free!) graphics programs, where you can remove the background before sending it through the freePatternWizard. I can't explain how to use either program because I use an ancient graphics program, circa 1998 or so.
Well, it works, so that's what
counts! LOL.

Goodness, you've been crocheting since such an early age...wonderful! LOL, I don't think I had the motor skills at that point to hold a crochet hook, so that makes it even better how you were able to start so young!
Copyright is a difficult subject, and we're not lawyers here (nor do we play them on TV). The best I can do is give
you a generic answer, which is that our understanding is
copyrighted material does need permission in order to be able to
use it.

especially ones that are inspired by not being able to find
anything suitable already in existence.
Looking forward to seeing your work! Starting small is always what I suggest...I personally find I get discouraged when I start large. I started small, too. With cross stitch and everything else, that's what I did. If I'd started with big, complex projects, I never would have been into anything crafty.

If your migraines aren't plaguing you and you have some time, perhaps you'd like to give people who are unfamiliar with charts some pointers about how to read them. No need to reinvent the wheel
or anything, since someone has apparently already written out the
pattern, but just something in general about chart reading would be
helpful. But don't try to do that with a migraine, okay?

Ooooooooh! Love it! I like it so much more than
any baby blanket I've ever made...I always stuck with blah
pastels. Now I'm going to be thinking about rainbow
colors for the next one!
