New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hey there stitchers!
I am new to cross stitch, I just taught myself how to do it last month! I am a recent college graduate working a desk job and all of my friends at work want me to teach them to stitch, although I do not think I am qualified enough to teach them yet! I have a few questions I am sure many beginners have. Please forgive any wrong vocabulary that I use, as I am still learning the nomenclature of the hobby.
(1) How can I know what size ring to use for a pattern- I have been employing the use of guessing and some basic math, but what should I be on the lookout for on patterns that would indicate what size of a ring to use?
(2) What should I use to tack down the excess cloth around the ring when I am finished with a pattern?
(3) I have been using the 14 size cloth and using either 2 or 3 strands for stitching. Is this what folk's typically used? I prefer to use 3 over 2 but I wasn't sure if the thick stitch would create problems for me down the line.
Thanks!

Debbie,
No problem...I don't have any way of knowing when links are no longer available, so your mention of it helps tremendously...thanks! I'll try to also update the original link.
LOL! Well, maybe you could make them with...never mind, I got nothing. Hopefully staring at them won't be too harmful...but I must have already gained 5 pounds from that.
Debbie,
Oh, wouldn't that be wonderful!
Debbie,
I really don't know any designers who are rich...I'm sure the few exceptions are out there, but I don't know any personally! Most are like you...they're trying to eke by, doing what they love. The arts are a cruel industry. Every once in a while I hear a success story and realize they're the exception to the rule.
I would have thought the festival would be making enough money from sales alone. Shame on them, trying to make fortunes off of struggling people! I wouldn't publish their info either, particularly not for free. Let them pay someone a large part of those fortunes they charge to put that up on their site. Like they're going to do that.

Jan,
Welcome!
Ooh,
Tennessee...haven't been there in ages...loved being
there!
Glad to hear you've found your way
back to crochet! I can't think of anything more suitable for
retirement.
Have you
started on something yet, or are you still looking for that perfect
comeback project?
