New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi, I joined tonight to make a pattern for a friend's Christmas present. Haven't cross-stitched since high school in the early 2000s, so it's been quite a while! Are there any nerdy/geeky/gamer circles on here?
Thanks!
Char
yeah i know what you mean melanie and i absolutely love kate's work it's kate i learnt the 3d figures and the murals from and she makes her videos so clear and easy to understand not like some other designers
I posted one FREE book on machine embroidery for Kindle for today...grab it before it's gone! (Note: you do not need to have an actual Kindle. If you have a smartphone, you can download a Kindle reader app for FREE...if all you have is a PC, you can download to your PC...and I believe there may also be a way now of completely bypassing any kind of reader app to read directly online - though please don't quote me on that, as I'm not sure. I find the PC reader to be quite decent for pattern content...since I don't own a Kindle, I can't say how well it works...but I would think a smaller screen would make patterns kind of difficult to read.)

Secoya,
I LOVE the way this
turned out and the rainbow metallic is perfect!
Nothing else could have done the trick
this well.
Plus, with that simple outline you've
elevated an ordinary red/white/blue cupcake design to an art form
and a celebration at the same time!

Midnightbleu,
Welcome!

Glad to hear
you like the detail the freePatternWizard produces!
Outlining is a feature that will be added in the future.
As of now, if you're just creating your own patterns for your own
use, perhaps it would be best to look at the work and figure out
where to add some outlines. I know it's an inexact science, but
it's the best way I can think of, until we have an outline function
available.

If you're
talking about downloading your finished patterns, at this time
there's no storage of patterns on your account...that's also a
feature that will be offered at a later date. For now, the only
thing to do is download it to your computer. You can also choose
the email option, where you can store patterns in your email. Most
providers allow you to keep emails indefinitely and many also allow
up to X amount of megs or gigs of storage. For example, I believe
Google currently offers 15G for a user account.
Oh, discontinued patterns...my nemesis!
I hear you about those. I used to have
the most beautiful dragon booklet, but lost it to flood waters and
have been unable to find anything close.

What I would say
is if you think you know the manufacturer, perhaps call them and
see if they can find the right pattern book...they may be able to
sell it to you directly, or at least let you know more info about
it, should it be out of print. (I'd do the same, but have no memory
of who published my dragon booklet, only that it was from at least
20 years ago...needle in a haystack.
)
)I would guess
manufacturers would like to at least help you to get info so you
can look on Amazon or eBay for discontinued patterns.
I don't know of anyone who actively sells a lot of old
patterns, but wouldn't be surprised to find there is someone like
that!
