Wips and the future

I'm making shrugs and hats.  Just finished a shrug today and began a hat tonight.  I make wool hats that are "fulled" in the washing machine.  I'm toying with the idea of knitting crystals or other sparklies into the hatband area and seeing how that works out.

I love hats too. I've never made a shrug though. I just did a wool hat out of Noro that was from the Modular knits book. It was a parallelagram with the ends seemed up and then the corners of the hat tacked together to give the whole thing an origami type feel. What hat design is your favorite?

I hope this works.  The purple/white one on the right is acrylic.  The others are fulled (felted) wool.

Charlene,

What incredible hats!  Do you sell these or make them for loved ones?

I like the black/red one the most...such a nice contrast!

The acrylic hat also looks fantastic.  IMO, it's not the most versatile or cooperative fiber to work with, but it does show the pattern very nicely.

Argh, now I have to find my Modular Knits book!  A dear friend needs a hat and loves origami!  (I can picture the hat you're talking about, too.)

Those hats are so pretty. I've felted 2 things. It always makes me a little nervous, but no serious problems. My daughter works as a outdoors guide. She'll be out in the field for 8 days in a row and if it's cold she'll sometimes wear  her hat day and night for 8 days. I did a fake isle hat for her and it is felted on the inside just from the friction on her constant wear. It didn't shrink like regular felting, but the fabric is solid instead of individual stitches. Anyway your felted hats are very nice.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement.  I do make these hats for sale.  So far I've sold them at a local craft store, (well it's actually 25 miles away).  I'm working on a group to put on Artfire now which is my foray into internet selling.

Thank you Admin for your answer in the beading section.  I'm going to try some beading on a hatband and see how that turns out.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Charlene,

You're very welcome, and please let us know how the hatband works out.  Smiley  Good luck with your Artfire sales!
