colors on the charts

Hopefully I can explain this correctly. Is there anyway to change a color of the squares once the crochet graph is made? I made a graph and I would love to change a few of the block colors but wasnt sure how or if it was possible. Thank you.

Hi, and welcome!  Smile  Your question is very clear.  Smile

It's currently not possible to change/edit the colors of a finished pattern.  The only way to designate certain colors at this time would be to choose your own.  In the future, we plan to have editing functions available; however, there is no estimated time when this will occur.  Smile

is there a way to tell wizard where i want each color?  The patern that came out was wonderful but i want the darkest color to be the back ground and work inward toward the lighter colors.  The way it came out the backgrou d is the lightest color.

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but at this time it's not possible to edit a pattern.  That said, if your pattern isn't terribly complex, could you perhaps change the colors in a graphics program before you run them through the freePatternWizard?

Another idea: the colors the freePatternWizard gives aren't cast in stone.  Meaning you can assign them to different colors in reality: change a blue to a green and a green to a purple.  If you're working with floss, beads, yarn or thread, it doesn't really make a difference; any color choices can be made as you're working on the piece.  And it's easiest to do if you generate your pattern as symbols rather than colors, because then you can assign the symbols to whatever colors you want, regardless of the color name showing in the pattern.  Smile

tnelson,

Welcome!  Smile

We've been testing and enhancing this new feature but don't have a date yet for when it'll be available.

During the testing, we've come up with new things that we feel would be great enhancements and that involves more coding and testing.

One other reason as to why it hasn't happened quite yet (and we first spoke of this feature probably 2 years ago), is that of browser compatibility.  As time goes on more and more browsers add new capabilities that will support these new features.

We started adding a few Premier Features back in October.  We don't want anyone who even pays $2.99 for a year to not be able to use a feature because of browser incompatibility.  And we don't want to have to tell people that they need to upgrade their operating system or browser to run something.

I can tell you that the live edit has been near the top of priorities.

Melanie

Hi, tnelson.

Since I'm the one doing the development, debugging, and initial testing, I can tell you that it's coming along.

In February I completely rewrote the graphics engine that does the bulk of the processing work.  I'll probably turn this on for Crochet, Cross Stitch, and Knitting first.  There hopefully won't be any apparent operational differences (except maybe faster processing and possibly a bit fewer stray pixels).  After some initial use by everyone, I'll enable it for Beaders.

This new graphics engine makes the live editor much easier and faster to use.

As Melanie pointed out, browser compatibility is always our concern and I've had to make changes to code or even the way a function works just to be sure everyone can use it without upgrading their browser.  And this especially relates to our Premier features (although we love people using the program even if they don't subscribe to anything!)  I don't want to have to tell people, "Oh, this only works if you have the most recent version of the browser."  In most cases I do have workarounds that allow functionality even with older browsers.

The live edit version also has a whole new look and that's all part of the process.  We're thinking of always having a "classic version" (looking kind of like it does today), and then the new version.  We would allow people to switch between them depending on what they're working on.

As I get a bit closer to opening the live edit feature, we may ask for some volunteers to beta test it.

So in answer to your question, "we're working on it".  I have a handful of new things to finish up and make live before spending most of my time on the live version.  We've seen a need for this since day one!
