Hi Fellow Textile Fans and unique question

Hi All!
I'm glad that I've found this website!  Since I'm a fan of everything yarn-- from sheep to manufacturing.. I love how well rounded this forum is.   I love knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing and newest addition, weaving.

I look forward to participating in discussions.. One question just curious..

Has anyone thought about spinning some types of dog fur?  Some of the fur on our mixed GS/AS, is ultra soft, like alphaca!  I don't have the patience for spinning, but I've sorta collected a little, just as an experiment...

Any thoughts?

Look at that smile! (Photo guaranteed unretouched)

Hello, and welcome!  Smile  So glad you found us!

Wow, you do everything!  That's so fantastic, and I'm jealous.  Smile

I've thought of spinning cat fur, and yes, also dog fur (though I would have to get the dog fur from others).  Now, practical experience I don't have, sigh, so I'm not the right person to advise you.  But I've read about spinning dog/cat fur, and it can be done, though there are probably different conditions that apply to different other words, some fibers may be too short to spin well or some may be too coarse or soft to work.  But that's just a guess.  Undecided

I don't see any reason not to experiment.  Smile  Speaking as a cat lover, how wonderful is the idea of having something made from the yarn from your special little (or not so little) furry one?  Kiss  Realistically, I probably only have enough fur for the smallest of cowls, perhaps, but the very idea is wonderful!  (LOL, and I'm not sure if I'd enjoy spinning, either...though at some point, I'll just suck it up and deal, because I want to make something fun!  Smile)

Hope that helps...I'm sorry I have no level of expertise, but I'm loving the idea of you being able to make something from your dog's lovely, soft fur!  Kiss
