Pattern will not generate
July 13, 2014 at 7:06:12 AM

Hi there

Is there some changes going on at the stitchboard pattern wizard?

I have tried for a couple of days, different times, even different weather and I cannot get the pattern to generate.

Is it my service? (Everything else seems to work) or my computer setting maybe? (I've not changed anything since the last time I used the wizard) I tried using my picture as a jpg and a png, no luck either way.

Hope it's up and running soon! I need to get my picture fix Smiley I'm need to get onto my next project.

I really enjoy the wizard, it's helped me make some awesome artwork. (see my circle . . . peyote stitch)

Thanks for the help

Deborah

Hi, Deborah.

I know of no issues that would cause you not to be able to create a pattern.

On June 28 we had an issue with an intermittent router going to the servers and the PatternWizard was up and down for a few hours.  But since then it's been fine.  Also, late at night (here in the US) the servers do housecleaning but never take the system off line.

We've generated about 600 new patterns in the last 12 hours and as of right now the count is still climbing.

Try it again and let me know more details if you're still having problems.

Terry

Still having problems. Here is what I can tell you. When I start the website tab reads "Stitchboard.com free pattern Wizard". I choose beading, peyote, rectangle beads, miyuki delica, automatic closest color match, entire palette, 78 stitches, pattern in pdf, color and symbols, 5 and 10 grid, show pattern on screen, gradual tones 20, stray pixel cleanup-heavy. My picture size in 202KB. I click on lets see pattern and the website tab changes to "waiting for stitchboard.com"

And that's were it stays, I have waited for over 30 minutes and still nothing. I've tried at least 4 times just today. Different times during the day, and the weather is good, no electrical interference as far as I can tell.

I've gone to other places on your website and everything else seems to be ok.

Hope you can help! Don't know really what else I can add but if you need more info just let me know.

Hi.

Ok, I just did exactly what you gave as settings (but obviously with a different image.)

It created a pdf for me just fine.

So, this makes me think of two possibilities.

1. There's a problem handling your image on our end.  To fix this, I'd need to have you email me your original image and if I can duplicate the problem, I can fix the issue.

or

2. There's an incompatibility with your browser settings and the current freePatternWizard version.  Please let me know what browser you use, version, if possible,  and what device you use to access the freePatternWizard (i.e. iPad, desktop, laptop, etc.)  Again, if I can get this information, I can look into what would be causing the problem.

I'm very interested in fixing this since if you're having problems, others probably are too.

Thanks for the additional information.

Hi Terry

I've attached the picture as you can see.

But I think you're on to something with the browser.

I am using internet explorer file version 11.0.9600.17207

My computer automatically updates newer versions. I've checked and it has uploaded this version on Thursday (July 10) which probably explains why I've not had any troubles till now.

Not sure how to get an older version back or if I even should.

Hope this helps both of us Smiley

Thanks

Deborah

Hi.

First, that's a beautiful picture!

Unfortunately the one that you posted to the Community has been re-written by our system so the actual formatting is different than the original one with which you're having problems.

I do suspect it might relate to IE.  Give me a bit of time and I'll look more into changes that Microsoft has made with the new version.  My goal is to make additions to the PatternWizard so it works for you.  I don't want to see you changing versions of IE to run the PatternWizard.

Like I say, if you're having issues with that version of IE, then others migth be too.  So let me address it on our end.

I'll let you know more asap.

Terry

Thanks Terry I really appreciate you looking into this.

I'm looking forward to using the patternwizard again from home. I really needed to get started on my project so I used a friend's computer with an older version of microsoft and it worked fine.

And the picture was taken looking out into my front yard this spring.

Hi, Deborah.

Here's where I'm at so far...

I've examined the main freePatternWizard log and see where you tried the "oriole" image several times.  I also show that the program successfully generated a pdf pattern each time.  In fact, out of all the patterns you've created, I only saw one particular image that it complained about (twice).

Since you did not see the pattern on the screen, I need to look into how IE 11 handles downloaded images.

I tried a pdf using IE9 and rather than show the pdf on the screen automatically, it asks me if I want to save it or not.  It then allows me to save the pdf.  I'm guessing there's a setting that I can tell it to automatically show it on the screen instead of this download option but I haven't gone more into that.

Also, I know IE can emulate earlier versions so this might be a temporary fix so you can do that pattern.  For example, in my IE9, I can tell it to change to IE8, or IE7 in "Development Tools".

So I'm continuing to look into it.  And I'm not sure there's really a problem.  It might simply be a setting change in the browser.

I'll keep you posted.

Terry

Hello! I am having the same problem where it will put in all the info on a pattern I want to make from a jpeg but it just sits there on "waiting for stitchmaker.com" and I too waited nearly 30 min. I tried 3 times.  It has worked fine for me before with no problems but now.....  what do I do to fix this? I love this site! THe Jedi Assembly picture here is what I wanted to make into a crochet blanket 150 stitches wide by 200 stitches long.   My email is diana_1959@live.com   Thanks! Diana Goetsch

There's apparently been some update to software that has caused this.  I'll be doing more testing tomorrow.  I hope to resolve this either by making changes to the freePatternWizard, or posting a setting change that can be made to get it working.

In the meantime, if you tell it to "Email pattern to myself" in section 7, it'll attach your pattern to an email.

I'll post an update in the next couple days...
