Tutorial?
July 11, 2014 at 4:39:53 PM

I blog about crocheting and other crafting things and I think a lot of my readers would enjoy stitchboard because the free pattern wizard really is the best online program that I've found. Is it okay if I make a simple tutorial to walk my readers through creating their own charts, step by step?

mdory,

By all means...and thank you so much!  Kiss  I'm sure many people would love to find such a tutorial!

Tutorial is finished here: http://fauxmenno.blogspot.com/2014/07/tutorial-using-free-pattern-wizard-to.html

I tried to make it as easy to follow and thorough as I could.  I think the program is already pretty intuitive and your FAQ and Help pages cover most of the finer details that I didn't really get into.  Part II covers how I use MS Paint to clean up any stray blocks of color that aren't where they should be.  I honestly don't have that many blog/social media followers, but hopefully this at least helps spread the word about how awesome stitchboard and the Free Pattern Wizard are.

mdory,

That has to be the best tutorial I've ever seen!  Kiss  You explain everything so beautifully and clearly!  Kiss

Thank you for writing that excellent tutorial!  Kiss

I hope more people find you, because you write so well.  Kiss  I've subscribed to your blog...I'm also interested in anything you've written about weddings, because sometime in the very far future, we'll be finally having a very small wedding.  Smile

Awww thank you! I really enjoy writing and helping people find ways to have awesome, creative weddings on any budget! I just started a new job so hopefully once my schedule gets more settled I'll have time to write out some of my other crochet patterns (non graphs).  I have a few market bags that are pretty cool, and I'm also working on a new wedding inspiration based on Jazz age style and newspaper bouquets gilded with spray paint. I also have a huge list of book reviews to get posted, so my days off are usually spent writing and scheduling blog posts.

You're sooooooo welcome!  Kiss  Well deserved!  Kiss

Those market bags sound fantastic!  Kiss  It's so hard to write out patterns, isn't it?  I'm writing up a market bag pattern myself...it's a huge bag, and it's been sooooooo hard to get it all down on paper.  Frown  That pattern led to a couple of other bags, too, since I wasn't sure how to do something.  And writing it down is what has gotten in the way.  Frown

Your new wedding inspiration sounds wonderful!  Kiss

We'll likely have a very low-key, not-a-lot-of-fuss wedding...it's going to be held at a dear friend's house, and there's little room, so we can't pack a lot of people in there.  But we weren't looking to have a huge wedding, anyway, so it will be the perfect thing for us...just have to figure out the logistics so we don't end up with a big mess instead!  And I'm thinking of either crocheting or knitting my gown.  Smile  LOL, so we're definitely not talking June bride!  Wink  Though it's a small place, there are still a lot of fun things that can be done, and that's the way we'd prefer to work it.  Smile

That sounds like a lovely wedding plan! I really like winter weddings, although mine was in October. I don't know if I would ever be confident enough to craft my own gown, but I have thought about trying to make a veil using some tiny and delicate crochet thread.

Also, I shared my tutorial on some facebook groups today and it's nearly going viral (well, for my average blog posts anyways). I hope it brings some more awesome crafters to stitchboard!

Thanks!  Kiss  Well, it has to be a very small wedding, due to the amount of space, but we wouldn't want to have it anywhere else, anyway, because my friend is such a sweetheart!  Kiss

LOL, the veil is another plan...but first for the gown I want to try making small pieces and joining them together.  That's based on a doily gown someone else here on Stitchboard linked to...I probably wouldn't be able to find it again easily, but it's beautiful!  And it was made of all different kinds of doilies.  I thought if that could be a designer wedding gown, why not try to make one?  So it's a half-baked idea that's still "gelling," LOL.  Wink

This definitely isn't the same page, but it may be the same dress...sigh, I don't remember, to be honest:

And I do love the looks of the crocheted veils, too.  Gorgeous!  Kiss

Oooh, thank you for posting your excellent tutorial on your Facebook groups!  Kiss  And BTW, I think your posts are well above average...love the "Jazz Age Paper" post!  Kiss  I never knew newspaper bouquets could be so pretty!  Kiss
