Blanket
June 15, 2014 at 1:58:12 PM

So my 3 year old were jealuos of his brothers baby blanket. He said that he would like one too.. So now I am working on a blanket for him as well..
The blanket is made of 100% cotton.. My boy chose the colours, since he is the one who wants it in the first place.. Smiley

Then one of my best friends told me that she is having a girl in November.. So of course i had to make something for her little girl..

One down, 3 to go Smiley This little hat is made from a softest cotton/wool blend I have EVER touched.. It is from a brand called Geilsk

Line,

How sweet that you're making a blanket for your three year old!  Kiss  Just because he's not a baby anymore doesn't mean he shouldn't also have a great blanket!  LOL, I'm so with him...and love what you've done so far, too.  He's got a good eye for color...those colors match very nicely...perhaps you have a future crocheter there?  The ripple pattern is always eye-catching...it looks like that's worked with double crochets, which works up so nice and fast compared to single crochet!  Kiss

The hat is adorable!  Kiss  Love the color (purple is one of my faves!).  That nice, soft hat will be perfect for November's cold...sooo jealous that you can get such a soft cotton/wool blend yarn!  I'm sure it feels wonderful!  Kiss  Looked up the company, but there are no retailers selling the yarn here.  Cry  Of course, part of the fun is feeling the yarns, and we have no LYS anymore.  Cry  That's what I don't like about mail order, though...you don't know if you're getting a soft yarn or a scratchy one.  Frown

Sherry -

Thank you Smiley I like it too.. It was my son who picked the colours.. Smiley I have gotten a bit white in there as well, and a lot of different shades of green and blue... Can't wait to get it done.. Then they wont fight over a single blanket.. :p

Is this cotton yarn like the Peaches and Cream? I was wondering how well a blanket made of 100% cotton would work up. And how about washing and drying? does it come out nice and soft? I had this discussion with someone and she had never made a 100% cotton blanket because she thought it would be too heavy.

Thank you so much!

Tribble79,

The heaviness (is that even a word?) depends on the size of the blanket..
I have only made baby blankets, and they are a bit heavy, but I actually like the weight of it.. I am currently making a 110x180cm blanket for my friends 3 year old, and it's not too heavy.. He could easily carry it around..

I made a blue zig-zag blanket for my youngest boy, and it's still as pretty as when I made it, except for the colors that have worn a bit off (but the blanket has been used for 3 years now, so it is fair enough that it has had some color loss)..

I wash and try it, with no problems at all.. I would maybe wash and dry the yarn BEFORE using it, because it can shrink a bit when dried in a machine..

You are more than welcome to ask questions..

Kind Regards

Aabye,

thank you so much for responding. Goodness it took me a minute to figure out where I had asked the question. I might make my next graphghan out of cotton to see if I like it or not. Never know till you try, right? It won't be till next year for I am currently working on two large graphghans and they will be finished tentavely right before christmas. One for my husband and one for my son.

By the way I love the colors picked for the blanket, they look so good together, very pretty.

Again, thank you so much.

Tribble,

You are very welcome..
I actually had to take this particular blanket apart as I ran out of yarn in these colors, so I have to get some new yarn to incorporate in the blanket..

I never finished it, and you replying to this post actually made me take it out again and taking it apart.. Thank you :p lol

I never got to work on the graphghans... I actually have a project or to lying arund somewhere.. :p Maybe I should look at those again ^^

Aabye,

Glad you've picked the project back up. I have so many unfinished projects lying about. So you are welcome for that.

I am really enjoying doing the graphghans. They can be nerve wracking with all these bobbins and color changes - goodness but I am so excited to see how it all turns out.

I think you should definately try one, it is fun watching the picture develope.
