Tiny crochet - counting stitches in the round
November 9, 2009 at 12:04:21 AM
I often lose count when crocheting very small items in the round. After starting many items over and over due to losing count while crocheting, I found marking the very first stitch in a round to be extremely helpful. As long as that first stitch is marked, I know to count it and all of the subsequent ones, and I know not to count that first one again when I get back around.
This also works for larger items, but is particularly critical for small items, where it's harder to see the first stitch in a round.

I love crocheting mini items, from dolls clothes to doilies for Barbie Dolls. Thank you for the tip, I will be using it all the time :-)

You're very welcome!
So glad you find this tip helpful. LOL, I got so tired of ripping out after losing count, so now I strictly mark every first stitch of every round!

You're absolutely right, Melanie. I used to mark the first stitch with a hair pin,
anything that can be slipped through that first stitch works. Even a little scrap of yarn.

Sherry,
Ooh, I never thought of using a hair pin! What a lovely idea!
My markers are soooo expensive and fancy - not.
I use whatever is at hand at the time, and that's usually a scrap of yarn. Honestly, I could make some pretty stitch markers, but I probably wouldn't be able to find them when needed! LOL, I can always find a scrap of yarn.
