Power Pro/Fireline: Colors that aren't commercially available

If you can't find Power Pro or Fireline in a color you need, buy white Power Pro (Crystal Fireline is not recommended for this!) and find a color of magic marker that is closest to what you need.  Put a piece of paper underneath, put the Power Pro on the paper, and with the marker sort of held "sideways," pull the thread through.  I've found this is the easiest way to color the Power Pro, where one spool of white plus a lot of magic markers will give you a large variety of colors.

I agree with you about the crystal Fireline, Melanie!  I have a beautiful set of multicolored permanent markers.  When I tried to color Fireline, the color didn't stick.  I did not know that this would work with Power Pro.  I've never worked with Power Pro.  I will try it.  Thanks for the tip!

Penny,

You're welcome!  Yes, I also bought a set of multicolored permanent markers, but before I tried to color the Crystal Fireline, someone warned me it doesn't take color well.  I have colored the white PowerPro, so if they haven't changed the product since I last purchased it, it should work great!  Smiley

Isn't it such a bear to try to find beading thread in a variety of colors?

Just want to share something I have done to color thread, including Fireline before is to run them over a stamp pad. I have a ton of Stampin up stamp pads and markers, and have colored white or light colored thread and Crystal Fireline with them occasionally. It works beautifully. You might have to hit it with the hair dryer for just a few seconds to heat set it, nothing extreme, just a nice little drying blast!
I've also used re-inker bottles to drop a few drops into a plastic baggie and put the thread in and mush it around a bit so it soaks up the color well. I swipe it with a paper towel and hang up to dry. Very nice when you don't have quite the color you need!  Grin

Carmen,

Thank you for the helpful hints, especially with the Crystal Fireline!  I haven't tried stamp pads before...I didn't know how they would work.  Now I'll be sure to watch for interesting colors!  And the re-inker bottles sound so quick and painless.
