Ok I finially get it.  The light bulb has went off.  Shocked
Took a few mintues after looking at chart and reading instructions twice and looking at what I had done.  LOL
Yea my 2nd row was half cross stitch and when I started 3rd row then it was tent stitch.
Thanks again for all the help.

I think between finishing my hat and my filet project, I will try the tube for my crochet with beads.

Jessica,

You're very welcome!  I'm so glad the pictures helped!  Smiley

I don't know if that's the way needlepointers work, but that's the way I always have beaded on Aida.  It's a personal choice and there's nothing WRONG with doing half cross stitch, but I like to have my beads on there very securely.

If you want a rectangular crocheted purse, IMO, a tube is the best way to do it.  USUALLY I don't see completed crocheted purses that are entirely covered with beads...those seem to be more the ones with beads here and there in a specific pattern.  So it will definitely be a nice experiment!  Alternatively, you could just do certain sections in beads...it would create an interesting raised effect, and combo fiber/bead projects always look so nice, IMO.  Smiley

Another thing, if you don't bead the ENTIRE tube, you may not have to worry about the pattern following through, because it will likely lay flatter.  I'm guessing (have never personally tried this) if you were to make a completely beaded tube for your purse, it likely would not stay PERFECTLY flat, though it also depends on what you do for the bottom.  Smiley

I can't wait to see which option you choose!  Smiley  It's so exciting to be following along with your experiences!

Ann Benson has a great book on tapestry crochet.  I have made many projects with size12 pearl cotton an 11/0 Czech seed beads with beaded crochet, which is very easy.  The hardest part is making sure the beginning chain is straight and flat, after that it is simple.  There are tutorials on this technique.  If you can work a chain and single crochet you will be fine!  As for durability, I made a cell phone case which has not come apart after a few years of abuse!  I would suggest scanning a simple photo into the pattern wizard and have it charted for beading.  The key I came up with had Myuki beads, but you most likely can substitute Czech beads if you can find the colors as they are less expensive and are round as opposed to the Myuki which tend to be more tube shaped although they are the same size.  I hope this helps.

Wnewtn,
Welcome! Smile
Thank you so much for the great info - it's extremely helpful!
I'm familiar with Ann Benson books (they're wonderful!) and that's a brilliant point about the Czech beads. Kiss Normally, Czech beads are more irregular and don't work quite as well as a Japanese/Miyuki seed bead for weaving that needs to be very even. Though they can work the other way and give a charming, homey look to weaving, where Miyuki might end up looking almost mass produced. And for bead crochet, the Czech would certainly elevate any crochet project because of their irregularity.
And you're spot on about the durability. I love to knit, but it doesn't have the sturdiness of crochet.
Feel free to post pictures of your bead crochet (or any other beading) here! Kiss
