Why does an entire category disappear when I click on the name?

You have "collapsed" a category.  No, that's not as painful as it sounds!

Many of our categories are "collapsible", meaning if one is not an area in which you have an interest, you can hide the sub-categories within that topic.

For example, if I didn't have an interest in Crochet, I could click on the 'Crochet' word (or the little minus sign to the left of it), and it would compress it into a single line, rather than breaking down all the sub-categories.

It remembers what categories are collapsed so next time you come back, it will remain collapsed.  Then when you want, you can click again on the category name and it will open it up again.
