I am new to Stitchboard.

I am in the process of designing a blanket to make for Christmas and use the app of the grid.
How do you determain how many stitches should be across for a throw and how many rows?

Janet,
Welcome! Smile
The only way to determine this is to make a gauge swatch with the hook and yarn you plan to use. The gauge swatch will be unique to you and your materials.
When you know your gauge you'll know how many stitches per inch you'll need. Then you can take your image and resize it to the number of pixels across to represent the number of stitches across, where pixels = stitches.
While you can't set the number of rows with the freePatternWizard, you can make your image the approximate number of rows. In a future version you'll be able to give it a specific number, but as of this time the best and only way to do this is with your image.
Don't feel bad if you're not a fan of gauge swatches...I only know of one person who likes making them...the rest of us aren't very happy with the process! Wink

Hahaha!  I hate making gauge swatches, but know I will have to for the next few projects I want to make.  They are so detailed, but I really want to try them.

Renee,
Welcome! Smile
Gauge swatches are a dirty deal, but there's really no way around them, sigh. Of course you don't want the things you make turning out too large or too small! So in the end it's worth the sacrifice...but that doesn't make anyone like them! Wink
