Is there a magic formula for conveting the stitch counts by color into how much yarn is needed? Thanks in advance!

Welcome!

There are several different calculators available; one of the ones I've used before is this:

I used this one because I felt it was pretty clear. Even though it assumes you're using all of the same color for a project, the math is basically the same, as long as you use the number of stitches for each color.

There are other good ones, too, so you may find something you prefer!
