Problem with downloading created pattern

Hi,
I use Stitchboard since a long time now on my pc, but since yesterday I can't download my patterns anymore.
Every time I click on download pattern I go back to the homepage.
Is there a problem at the moment?

Hi, Isabelle.

I just did three tests.  1. Showing the .pdf on the screen,  2. Downloading the .pdf pattern, and 3. Having it email the .pdf pattern to myself.  All three worked fine on my laptop.  I also just downloaded and emailed a .pdf chart using my iPhone and they worked too.  So the basic functions are working.

BUT, one of the great "joys" Frown of programming and developing software for internet use (which I've been doing for some 20 years) is that there are always companies upgrading device software versions, and changing what and how they support various functions.  So things that work today might not work tomorrow after an upgrade.  Or if I make a change on our end, all of a sudden something might not work on 1%, 10%, 50%, or 100% of the users' browsers on certain devices.

Back on March 24 I moved the entire site over to our secure server because that's how the internet is headed.  Security is super-important!

In doing some research, I do see some versions of the standard Android browser have a problem downloading .pdfs from a secure website.  This is not a problem on our end but just something that Google didn't work through in their browser.  I did also see that people who then used a different browser on the same device were able to download just fine.  I'm guessing there are other browser versions on some other devices that may also have an issue.

What's the solution?

1. You can have it email the pattern to yourself (set in the freePatternWizard section 7).
2. Change your browser.
3. Upgrade your browser.
4. Help me offer work-arounds.

Number 4 above would probably be the better solution in many cases.  All this would take is to have one or more users who have a problem downloading a .pdf chart give me some information so I can thoroughly research the cause.  I had to do a similar thing when Microsoft caused a problem with one version of one of their browsers.

So if anyone reading this would be interested in helping, I can probably come up with a fix in a short period of time.  Just let me know.

Isabelle,

One other question.  When you say you "click on download pattern", do you mean when you click on the "Let's See My Pattern!" button?  Or does your device pop up some sort of download button?

In the brief research I did, I also happened to see that when someone was trying to download a .pdf from a secure website and had a "download" button available, by pressing and holding the button, they then got a "Save Link" option, on which they could click to save the .pdf.

I have added a couple lines of code that might give you the download option again.  Try downloading another chart.

This is a temporary test.  Let me know if it works.

I'm going to give it a try and if not working in my Mozilla, I will try in another browser.
The download button I'm talking about is the one on the left above your pattern when you see it

The pattern on screen is still not working in Mozilla, but when I tried pattern in pdf I had a message indeed telling me that my browser has a problem with downloading from a secure website Wink

Thanks for the input!

I'm working on what I'm hoping will be a nice solution.  It looks like I'll be able to make it do a download like before — with a single click.

I hope to have a solution on Saturday (actually later today) although it might take a couple days to implement the entire update since there are a couple areas of our site that do downloading.  I do know we'll get it working.

Early versions of the Android browser that comes standard on devices as well as some versions of Chrome have problems with certain downloads from a secure site.  I'll look into Mozilla after I bring up the fix for Android/Chrome and will post again with progress later today/this evening.

Isabelle,

I'm half way through my test code change.  I was able to find a very old Android tablet here in the office that showed errors when downloading.  In testing, I'm now able to download successfully.

My hopes are that I'll have a version for you to test in the next day or so.
