I'm new & a Leftie with Questions!
March 2, 2017 at 7:32:34 PM

Hello from Northern PA!  I have been crocheting since the age of 10.  My nana taught me many years ago!

I am about to begin my first graph; however, I am seriously stuck!  It's the words:  Star Wars - Black background/Words in Yellow.

This is what I have learned so far:

Odd number rows - work from left to right / Even number rows - work right to left.  I did the first 20 rows of my design and it was not right.  I frogged it and started over by making a new pattern here at stitchboard.

I clicked "I am left handed" (This wasn't an option when I made the first patten here a long time ago)

My graph & written pattern is ready --- here's what I can't get passed ~~~~

Since I clicked the "I am left handed" box - do I:

A)  Read as a regular pattern / turning the work at the end of each row?

OR

B) Follow the Odd/Even Number Rule as above?

If I use the Odd/Even rule above how will I know it will turn out - as the last try was a mess.

I don't know why I'm having such trouble with this - I just can't get my brain to comprehend!

Hopefully someone will have an answer for me!

Nanaz,

Great questions!  Smile  No worries, you're not doing anything wrong!

First, are you talking about using a word chart?

You're correct that we've added the "I am left handed" option.

As for the correctness, I've alerted Terry (Support) to your message.  I believe a recent update may have caused the left handed option to stop working properly at times, so this is why I've handed this to Terry.  Please bear with us!  Smile

Regarding your question about reading a pattern, if you're talking about a graph, you'd read it normally; which is the same thing you've mentioned in both A and B above.  You do turn your work at the end of each row.  And since you're left handed, your work is odd/even.  Your odd rows are working from left to right and your even rows are working from right to left.  However, if you're talking about a word chart, then you would follow it as given, which is written to follow as the B option for you, if that's clear.  Smile

As for the current correctness of the left handed charts, as I said, please bear with us so I can determine if they're correct or not.  I'd hate to have you frog and start your project again!

Nanaz,

I'm so sorry...I was referring to the type of chart, not the subject of your particular chart.  Did you have the freePatternWizard create a graph (grid) or a word chart?

Hi, Nanaz.

As Melanie said I've seen an issue with the left-handed setting.  Let me look into it and do some testing today and I'll post again with more information.

If I find there still is an issue, I'll fix it and let you know.

i had freepatternWizzard make both the word chart and grid.  I'll wait until I hear back to find if things are working properly.  I"m off to see my grandbabies for the weekend!

Have a great weekend!  Thanks so much for the help ladies.

Candi,

Here's an update...

I did find that the left-handed standard crochet word charts had a problem.  I corrected it and want to do a bit more testing with that and tunisian crochet.  I should wind it up later today.  I'll post again!

Thanks for your patience.

Candi,

Have a lovely weekend!

You should be able to follow the grid exactly the same as usual, by reading it left to right/odd, right to left/even; it's the word chart that, when working properly, will automatically read out the patterns left to right/odd, right to left/even, so you don't have to read some of them backwards.  Smile

Candi,

So far, so good in testing.  Standard and tunisian crochet word charts seem to be corrected and we're doing a bit more testing.  I also did find a related problem with illusion knitting word charts and have corrected this too.

We're doing some final testing today and will post again when we're done.

Candi,

We've tested this quite thoroughly, so please do rerun your pattern.  Smile  If you do find any issues, feel free to let us know!

Hello Ladies ~

I re-ran the pattern.  I'm on row 68 and so far things are going great!  I thank you so much for the left-hand option.  It certainly makes this easier!

My goal is to be done by my grandson's birthday - April 1st -- wish me luck Laughing
