Reading a graphgan pattern

Is this how you read crochet the regular crochet graphgan patterns?

You start with your foundation ch. then reverse sc row 1 from left to right then alternate regular sc right to left and reverse sc left to right on the rows???

Thanks!!

Chris,

Welcome!  Smile

Close!  Your chain doesn't actually count as a row, so you start reading from right to left, and then when you reverse you read left to right.

what is the best way to keep the back side looking neat while switching back and forth between colors? I have never learned how to carry colors through the work as you switch back and forth. Do you have a tutorial you would suggest? I love your pattern wizard and really appreciate your hard work and support!! Thank you!

Chris,

This is one of the best tutorials I've found, if you're not specifically looking for a video:
http://www.dummies.com/crafts/crocheting/how-to-carry-yarn-in-crochet/

I like the illustrations because they make the steps very clear!

It's not hard to strand in this manner and will give the piece a much more polished appearance when it's finished than if you cut the yarn and work the ends in later.  Sure, it's a bit more trouble, but worth it, IMO.  Though double crochet is shown in the illustrations, single crochet is the same thing, just with a shorter stitch, and you should be able to strand exactly the same way.  Smile

Chris,

You're so welcome and glad to be of help!  Smile  I think stranding is the easiest way of all to carry colors, especially with something reversible.  Smile
