Argh!  Do you have similar issues with Barbie/Dawn, then?  Barbie and Ken do tend to have unrealistically long legs, IMO.

With Dawn not so much. She and Barbie have similar body styles, though I find Barbie to be just a bit...er..."bustier". They have the same disproportionately long legs, though, and since Dawn wears minis most of the time, it's not really an issue.

For gowns like "White Christmas" I merely add a 1/4" or so to the bottom of the hem. Or take up a smaller hem allowance if I'm "close enough for government work". It depends on the look I'm going for, and what kind of shoes will go with the fashion. Do I want them to be seen or not? That sort of thing.

Argh, I can imagine Barbie patterns would be "bustier."  Is it the same for the new Barbie body and the old?  I had the idea that new Barbie is a little less busty than old Barbie.

Just a thought...and maybe this won't be helpful...would any of the old Francie patterns reduce well?  Francie is quite a bit more flat-chested than Barbie.

Glad the hem isn't an issue, even on the gowns.  Hmm...that gives me some ideas, to look at Barbie clothes and Barbie sewing patterns for Dawn knitting/crochet!  Smiley

I've looked at some of the older patterns for Barbie and Francie. If I wanted to do 60's fashions, that'd be fine, but those fashions had a definite "look" about them. You know what I mean. We look at them now and think, "Eww, we used to wear that?" The casual fashions of the 70's are a little easier to adapt, and are more in keeping with the time-period in which Dawn was produced. Anything newer than that is fine for a more contemporary look for Dawn. Although, some of the 80's patterns have the same "Ewww" effect!

The one or two patterns I've seen for the newer "big-headed" Barbie's haven't really varied much in the body-style. They still work for Dawn.

Re: those '60s fashions...I know exactly what you mean!  LOL, I'm literally remembering some of my old Barbie (Francie, really) clothes...if those weren't dated, I don't know what is!  UGH!  I remember one pink dress that's probably a collector's item now...ugh, the style was hideous.

Glad the "big headed" Barbie patterns are useful for Dawn!

If it would help for you to look at Barbie knitting patterns, there's an excellent site with literally hundreds of them.  900-something of them the last time I looked.  (Just for styles, not for patterns, since knitting them would require extremely thin thread and tiny knitting needles!)

Charlene,

Thank you!  I had not seen Bug Knits for years (long before the movie!)...and though I'd seen a pattern for something related to Coraline, had never seen that outstanding video, either.  Can you imagine?  It's very hard to knit that tiny.  LOL, it makes my hands cramp just to think of it!

Charlene, that BugKnits site is great. I haven't looked at it in a while, but her creations are perfect Dawn-sized fashions. Would I ever knit anything that tiny?Huh Not in this life or the next! LOL

Great gobs and little fishes!!!  With my math word problem difficulties on normal sized stuff, can you just see the explosion that would follow my trying to do a cable pattern or Fairisle on that scale.  It boggles the mind.

LOL, I'm an avid knitter and fan of all things tiny - and I wouldn't do it, either!  Not even if someone bought me all of the thread, needles, buttons and everything else.  It's not worth all of that pain!  And I'm pretty crazy...I've worked very tiny before, with doll sewing needles as knitting needles (have to have a screw loose to do that!).  I'm not anxious to repeat the experience.
