Line,

LOL, I'm not sure I would talk about our school system here as "working," if you know what I mean!  Wink  Seriously, well, our school system (particularly higher education) needs a complete overhaul.  But I'm guessing it won't ever happen.  It's getting way too expensive to get an education, so college grads are starting out with tens and hundreds of thousands in debt.  Cry  And those loans aren't forgivable...ever...a student will owe on them until they're paid off.  Cry

February 4th isn't so far away...they don't give you a lot of time, do they?  Surprised  And will you be doing the project alone?  It sounds like you don't save any trouble or anything if you do the project as a group.

Have you had to do anything like this before?

Yuck, I'm not a big fan of math, either.  Frown  Wouldn't it be difficult to do as an oral exam, though?  Do you prefer oral exams?  Can't say there was ever an oral exam at either of my colleges.  All were written.  Are oral exams more the norm there?

LOL, no worries...I kind of laugh about it, too.  Laughing  Though I'm still not happy with it.  I mean, really, the last bead?  It couldn't be a bead toward the beginning?  In the middle?  Somewhere else...Canada, Florida, London, Fiji, Australia, Hawaii?  Wink  LOL!

Hugs!  Kiss

Melanie,

Some of our classes has 2 exams... Danish, English and math... alle the others are oral exams... I love oral exams - they are better than the written ones..

In the oral math exam you have to explain some stuff.. Not sure how it works actually.. I only know that it will be hell.. :p

Our education is free... I can't understand why yours arent too.. It doesn't make any sense.. o.O
We only have to pay for our own books when we get to the university.. But that's it...

Stupid bead project.. :p

Hugs

Line,

Noooo...2 exams for one class?!  Surprised  Isn't one exam enough?!

I'm so glad you're more comfortable with oral exams and glad they give them!  Kiss  There's nothing like that here.  Just the usual written exams.  Nobody here would know any better, though, since probably not many people here have ever taken an oral exam!

Do you have both an oral and written exam for math?

I agree with you.  Kiss  That's really the way it should be, free education, just buy your books and materials, but there are people who would rather limit educations to those with money.  Cry  It's a lot like the problem with our health care...there are those who have always had plenty, oftentimes money inherited from a parent or parents, who believe that others who can't afford such things as education or health care simply don't deserve it.  Cry  That's why I think the way you guys do it is so sensible.  Everyone pays into the system, and everyone gets what they need.  Kiss

Sigh, it really is a stupid bead project!  It was so aggravating for that last bead to split...twice!  Yell

Hugs!  Kiss

Melanie,

YES... One exam should be enough.. :p
And yes, I have two exams in math.. Both written and oral..

I love the oral ones since I can talk my way out of almost everything..
Some are better with the written ones.. The problem with the oral exams are that on C level you only have 40 minutes to prepare for the exam.. On the other side you usually just have to answer three questions and you have 10 minutes to do that, and then 12 minutes where you have to discuss the topic with you teacher and censor.. On B level you have 24 hours to prepare yourself, 10-15 mins to explain your work, and then again 10-12 minutes where you are discussing your paper with the teacher and censor.
On A level you have 48 mins to prepare and the same time as on the B level to explain your work.. :p
The written exams are ususally 4-6 hours..

All my exams this year are on C level, except for 2.. History and psychology which are on B level..

Can't wait till I'm done..

I have written you another PM, about the education system.. Not sure if it's smart that i write what I do in an open forum :p haha

Hugs
Kiss

Line,

Now, wouldn't it be nice if it was one exam per semester?  Wink  LOL, wishful thinking!

That's interesting about the different levels; of course, I imagine the higher the level of classes you take, the higher level of exams.  So that must be really difficult...and it sure sounds to me like 40 minutes really isn't all that long to prepare for a C level!

And 4-6 hours for written exams?!  Surprised  I don't think I've ever taken any that were that long.  I think it was 2 or 3 hours max for our finals.

So how do you feel that most of your exams are C levels?  I'm sure you're up to it...but still...that's so little time to prepare!

Oh, no worries...a PM about the subject is fine.  Smile  The sad thing about our system is pretty much everyone knows how it works.  Cry  So I'm not giving away any state secrets, sigh.

Oooh, love the hat for Marcus, too!  It looks soooooooooo warm.  Kiss  I love the texture of that modified V stitch!  Have you given it to him yet?  If so, bet he loves it!  Smile

Hugs!  Kiss

Melanie,

One exam per semester sounds wonderfull..

and yes 4-6 hours for a witten exam is a lot.. I have actually NEVER used up the time.. My danish written exam took me 1,5 hours.. :p The same with the written english exam..
I both love and hate the C level exams.. I love them because they are very short, and you usually just have to answer a couple of questions... I hate it because there is no time to prepare for it :p

I hope the hat for Marcus is very warm - it should be.. 1 thread of highland wool.. 1 thread of highland wool/silk..

I gave it too him today...

He seemed very pleased with it.. On top of that my mother have been knitting the shirt for him that he is wearing.. Sorry about bad picture.. It's almost upside down, and there are dogs everywhere.. :p LOL

Line,

Hee hee, let's petition for one exam per semester.  Wink  Um, yeah, somehow that doesn't sound like it would fly.

Actually, 1 1/2 hours sounds like about how long some of our exams run here.  So is it mainly that you get 4-6 hours to take them, but they don't really run that long unless someone needs an extra amount of time?  I've had it where there wasn't enough time or I needed a tiny bit more...but some professors are very strict that a deadline is a deadline.  And with them, if you're not finished, that's it.  Thankfully it was like that only with a handful of exams over the entire four years, and the rest were okay.  And then there were some that gave as much extra time as necessary...though it couldn't ever be 4-6 hours!  I took so long with one of my history exams, sigh, I think I stayed an extra 45 minutes at most.  Because we were allowed to make up our own topics for the essay portion of this exam, with professor approval on the day of the exam.  And I'd studied certain things that I thought would make a good essay, because he told us we could pretty much do that!

So the day of the exam arrived, we got to the essay portion, and he asked for subjects.  I gave the one I preferred...and he said there wasn't enough...oh, crap...there really was enough!  Frown  Then I gave another one, and he said that wasn't enough (oh, yes, there was!) but I could put it with something else (he gave the extra topic, which I did know) and that would be fine.  That was what I did.  But it was a lot, because of the extra part he wanted.  Surprised  I don't think he realized it added way too much.  And that's what took me an extra 45ish minutes, because I had to write my entire essay (by hand) - LOL, home computers were still in their infancy...okay, really, the Ice Age had just ended WinkLaughing - and putting both parts of the essay together took forever.  And the last I saw of the professor was that very day, so I received my grades through the mail.  I got an A on it...well, yeah, because I wrote and wrote and wrote that essay!

Kind of wish I'd had an opportunity to speak to him once more, though, because I wanted to hear him admit he'd given waaaaaay too much to cover on my suggested subject for that essay!

I love his hat...it looks so good!  Kiss  And his sweater is absolutely adorable!  Kiss

The picture isn't bad...no worries!  Kiss  He looks adorable and soooo nice and warm.  Your mother really did a great job with the sweater...are things getting better with her, I hope?  Holding my breath that everything is improving.  Kiss  Sometimes it can be soooo hard with parents.  Frown

Just a thought...do you want me to see if I can rotate the pic for you?  Kiss

Hugs!

Melanie,

We can get extra time for our exams if we have certain conditions.. Dyslexia for one...
A lot of people here uses up ALL the time.. I just know that if I do so, I will redo my assignment, and actually making it worse than it allready is :p
So I do my work, and I get the hell out of there.. It seems to work for me. Cheesy

Haha.. 45 min extra.. Yikes, an entire written exam by hand.. Oh dear lord.. Ice age or not, it had to be done.. I'm sure my hand would not function for weeks after if I had to write my entie exam by hand.. I would die a little on the inside... And it's my worst fear, that my computer will say: "You know? F**K you lady........." during the exam..

Don't worry about the picture... :p So unless you really really wan't to rotate it, be my guest.. :p The sweater is very nice, made from superwash merino (thank god for the superwash.. I would die if I had to wash it by hand <- I hate that, even though my washer has a wool program :p )

The hat turned out beautifully... But he is now asking for a cowl.. So I guess I'm on it once again Wink

My mother... Og well... She's there.. That's pretty much what I have to say about that subject :p

Hugs

Line,

It sounds like using an excuse for extra time during an exam is, for you, probably not the best way of taking the exam.  I can understand.  Kiss  I actually think you're far smarter to do it that way.  I'd be tempted, too, to redo everything if given more time...sigh, nothing worse than rethinking all of the work, right?!  So let others be dishonest.  Your plan is far better.  Kiss

LOL!  Isn't it always that computers generally pick the worst times to act up?!  SurprisedWink

I don't remember anymore if my hand was okay after that...I suspect it was, because it was a bit more normal back then to write and write by hand.  LOL, try not to think about it, though, as it's pretty awful to contemplate.  Wink

Oh, right, is that superwash a life saver or what?!  I can't imagine washing a bunch of sweaters by hand.  I know people who love, love, love their non-superwash wool, and it's pretty, but that hand washing...argh!  Is there anything about laundry that's worse than hand washing?  Surprised

You know, I've heard people say that a wool setting really should not be used for wool on a machine.  I wouldn't know, as our machine doesn't have a wool setting...it's an old machine, but we won't get rid of it unless it stops working.  If we had a machine with the wool setting, I guess I'd try it on something unimportant first, like a square or whatever.  I really don't think it's worth chancing otherwise.  After making something beautiful like a hat or a sweater, can you imagine pulling a doll-sized hat or sweater out of the machine, because the wool setting didn't work?!

A cowl...got to admit, he's pretty smart!  Kiss  What's a hat without a cowl?!  Wink

Completely understand.  I've got certain, um, relatives that are "there," too.

Hugs!

Melanie,

My washer has a wool program.. It works like a charm Wink
I made a tent for my self.. You know, a sweater sooo big that you could probably live in it :p
It's very nice, unfortunately I got stuck in a door handle and ripped up one of the sleves  Sad
Anyhow.. That was made from highlandwool, non superwash.. I used to wash it in the washer on my wool program.. It's as pretty (it's butt ugly) as when I made it.. :p

I only made the mistake of washing a sweater on a non wool program ONCE.. My mother made these Oslo Anoraks for the kids.. She told me that it was super wash, so I put it in the mashine, and when done, there was this cute little doll sweater coming out.. -.-'
I gave it to the neighbours daugthers doll.. It was really annoying.. :p

Oh.. The time.. Have to walk the dogs before I'm off to school o.O

Hugs..

Line,

I'm so jealous!  Last I'd heard was not to use real wool in a washer, even with a wool setting, now I know it's fine...thank you!  Kiss  It may be a while before I get one of those...we simply won't get rid of a washer that's perfectly functional, sigh.  But I can dream!  Wink

Oooh, love that about your tent sweater!  What a fantastic idea...after all, I imagine nobody ever sees it, other than your family!  It must be sooooooooooooo nice and warm.  Kiss

Who cares what it looks like?  Kiss  Warmth and comfort are key!

Oh, no!  Cry  Do you think your mother told you it was superwash knowing you'd put it through the regular washer cycle?  If so, that's very mean.  Cry

I'd be upset, too.  Cry  It's not your fault...how were you to know, but frustrating nonetheless!  Cry  Of course, I wouldn't want to give it to someone for a doll, either.  Cry  It would be heartbreaking.

Awwwww, that must be nice, to spend time with the dogs in the morning.  Kiss

Hugs!

Melanie,

Hahaha.. I can picture you going to the store for a new washer.. And when the guy standing there asks you what you are looking for, your only answer will be: "it MUST have a GOOD wool program" none of the other things matters, as long as it has a good wol program..

On my machine, I can make the settings my self.. So I will put in on the wool program, and then I will shut of the centrifugal thingy.. :p As I said, it works like a charm..

My mother had simply forgot to tell me.. Even though she was laughing at me, I laughed harder and longer, since it was not I who knitted the damned thing :p

She made a new one a couple of days later though.. Smiley
The Oslo sweaters are really quick to make.. I does not take her more than 2-4 days to make one.. Then again, the boys are not that big yet.. I'm sure it will take longer when they are 14-15 years old :p

Line,

Hee hee, that's so me!  Laughing  I would definitely be doing that.  If our old washer broke down and we had to have a new one, why settle for something without a wool program?  We'd be spending the money, anyway!

Oh, I didn't know it turned off the...agitation?  That actually makes sense.  Smile

It probably really helps to make the settings yourself.  Kiss  That's what I'd want to do!

LOL, true...if you didn't make it and she laughed it off, anyway, then it was perfectly good for you to get a better laugh out of it!  Laughing

You're so right...when they're small, of course it doesn't take a long time to make a sweater like that, but at 14-15 years old, they'll need larger clothes that will take longer to make!  Especially if they get big quickly, which can happen!

Hugs,
Melanie
