LOL, I'm not sure I would talk about our school system here as "working," if you know what I mean!    Seriously, well, our school system (particularly higher education) needs a complete overhaul.  But I'm guessing it won't ever happen.  It's getting way too expensive to get an education, so college grads are starting out with tens and hundreds of thousands in debt.    And those loans aren't forgivable...ever...a student will owe on them until they're paid off. 

February 4th isn't so far away...they don't give you a lot of time, do they?    And will you be doing the project alone?  It sounds like you don't save any trouble or anything if you do the project as a group.

Have you had to do anything like this before?

Yuck, I'm not a big fan of math, either.    Wouldn't it be difficult to do as an oral exam, though?  Do you prefer oral exams?  Can't say there was ever an oral exam at either of my colleges.  All were written.  Are oral exams more the norm there?

LOL, no worries...I kind of laugh about it, too.    Though I'm still not happy with it.  I mean, really, the last bead?  It couldn't be a bead toward the beginning?  In the middle?  Somewhere else...Canada, Florida, London, Fiji, Australia, Hawaii?    LOL!

I'm so glad you're more comfortable with oral exams and glad they give them!    There's nothing like that here.  Just the usual written exams.  Nobody here would know any better, though, since probably not many people here have ever taken an oral exam!

Do you have both an oral and written exam for math?

I agree with you.    That's really the way it should be, free education, just buy your books and materials, but there are people who would rather limit educations to those with money.    It's a lot like the problem with our health care...there are those who have always had plenty, oftentimes money inherited from a parent or parents, who believe that others who can't afford such things as education or health care simply don't deserve it.    That's why I think the way you guys do it is so sensible.  Everyone pays into the system, and everyone gets what they need. 

Sigh, it really is a stupid bead project!  It was so aggravating for that last bead to split...twice!

That's interesting about the different levels; of course, I imagine the higher the level of classes you take, the higher level of exams.  So that must be really difficult...and it sure sounds to me like 40 minutes really isn't all that long to prepare for a C level!

And 4-6 hours for written exams?!    I don't think I've ever taken any that were that long.  I think it was 2 or 3 hours max for our finals.

So how do you feel that most of your exams are C levels?  I'm sure you're up to it...but still...that's so little time to prepare!

Oh, no worries...a PM about the subject is fine.    The sad thing about our system is pretty much everyone knows how it works.    So I'm not giving away any state secrets, sigh.

Oooh, love the hat for Marcus, too!  It looks soooooooooo warm.    I love the texture of that modified V stitch!  Have you given it to him yet?  If so, bet he loves it!

Actually, 1 1/2 hours sounds like about how long some of our exams run here.  So is it mainly that you get 4-6 hours to take them, but they don't really run that long unless someone needs an extra amount of time?  I've had it where there wasn't enough time or I needed a tiny bit more...but some professors are very strict that a deadline is a deadline.  And with them, if you're not finished, that's it.  Thankfully it was like that only with a handful of exams over the entire four years, and the rest were okay.  And then there were some that gave as much extra time as necessary...though it couldn't ever be 4-6 hours!  I took so long with one of my history exams, sigh, I think I stayed an extra 45 minutes at most.  Because we were allowed to make up our own topics for the essay portion of this exam, with professor approval on the day of the exam.  And I'd studied certain things that I thought would make a good essay, because he told us we could pretty much do that!

So the day of the exam arrived, we got to the essay portion, and he asked for subjects.  I gave the one I preferred...and he said there wasn't enough...oh, crap...there really was enough!    Then I gave another one, and he said that wasn't enough (oh, yes, there was!) but I could put it with something else (he gave the extra topic, which I did know) and that would be fine.  That was what I did.  But it was a lot, because of the extra part he wanted.    I don't think he realized it added way too much.  And that's what took me an extra 45ish minutes, because I had to write my entire essay (by hand) - LOL, home computers were still in their infancy...okay, really, the Ice Age had just ended  - and putting both parts of the essay together took forever.  And the last I saw of the professor was that very day, so I received my grades through the mail.  I got an A on it...well, yeah, because I wrote and wrote and wrote that essay!

Kind of wish I'd had an opportunity to speak to him once more, though, because I wanted to hear him admit he'd given waaaaaay too much to cover on my suggested subject for that essay!

I love his hat...it looks so good!    And his sweater is absolutely adorable! 

The picture isn't bad...no worries!    He looks adorable and soooo nice and warm.  Your mother really did a great job with the sweater...are things getting better with her, I hope?  Holding my breath that everything is improving.    Sometimes it can be soooo hard with parents. 

Just a thought...do you want me to see if I can rotate the pic for you?

It sounds like using an excuse for extra time during an exam is, for you, probably not the best way of taking the exam.  I can understand.    I actually think you're far smarter to do it that way.  I'd be tempted, too, to redo everything if given more time...sigh, nothing worse than rethinking all of the work, right?!  So let others be dishonest.  Your plan is far better. 

LOL!  Isn't it always that computers generally pick the worst times to act up?! 

I don't remember anymore if my hand was okay after that...I suspect it was, because it was a bit more normal back then to write and write by hand.  LOL, try not to think about it, though, as it's pretty awful to contemplate. 

Oh, right, is that superwash a life saver or what?!  I can't imagine washing a bunch of sweaters by hand.  I know people who love, love, love their non-superwash wool, and it's pretty, but that hand washing...argh!  Is there anything about laundry that's worse than hand washing? 

You know, I've heard people say that a wool setting really should not be used for wool on a machine.  I wouldn't know, as our machine doesn't have a wool setting...it's an old machine, but we won't get rid of it unless it stops working.  If we had a machine with the wool setting, I guess I'd try it on something unimportant first, like a square or whatever.  I really don't think it's worth chancing otherwise.  After making something beautiful like a hat or a sweater, can you imagine pulling a doll-sized hat or sweater out of the machine, because the wool setting didn't work?!

A cowl...got to admit, he's pretty smart!    What's a hat without a cowl?! 

Completely understand.  I've got certain, um, relatives that are "there," too.

I'm so jealous!  Last I'd heard was not to use real wool in a washer, even with a wool setting, now I know it's fine...thank you!    It may be a while before I get one of those...we simply won't get rid of a washer that's perfectly functional, sigh.  But I can dream! 

Oooh, love that about your tent sweater!  What a fantastic idea...after all, I imagine nobody ever sees it, other than your family!  It must be sooooooooooooo nice and warm. 

Who cares what it looks like?    Warmth and comfort are key!

Oh, no!    Do you think your mother told you it was superwash knowing you'd put it through the regular washer cycle?  If so, that's very mean. 

I'd be upset, too.    It's not your fault...how were you to know, but frustrating nonetheless!    Of course, I wouldn't want to give it to someone for a doll, either.    It would be heartbreaking.

Awwwww, that must be nice, to spend time with the dogs in the morning.

Hee hee, that's so me!    I would definitely be doing that.  If our old washer broke down and we had to have a new one, why settle for something without a wool program?  We'd be spending the money, anyway!

Oh, I didn't know it turned off the...agitation?  That actually makes sense. 

It probably really helps to make the settings yourself.    That's what I'd want to do!

LOL, true...if you didn't make it and she laughed it off, anyway, then it was perfectly good for you to get a better laugh out of it! 

You're so right...when they're small, of course it doesn't take a long time to make a sweater like that, but at 14-15 years old, they'll need larger clothes that will take longer to make!  Especially if they get big quickly, which can happen!
