Standard crochet stitch = single crochet?
November 19, 2015 at 2:08:32 AM

Hello,

I uploaded a picture to make my first graphghan, the little Wizard is working great! I'm wondering, though, if the setting 'Standard' in crochet is resembling a single crochet stitch?

Thank you for your help,

karina

Karina,

Welcome!  Smile

Yes, you're correct..."standard" is a single crochet.  I've thought of changing it; however, right now it's readable by people in the UK (and Australia) as well as the US.  By designating a name for the stitch, it's likely to be confusing if we pick one (in the UK and Australia, they call single crochets "double crochets," so we call it "standard" to avoid confusion.  I'll have to think about a way to make it more clear, but for now, know that "standard" is single crochet in the US, in this case.  Smile

Hello Melanie,

thank you for the fast reply! And oh well, I didn't even think about the stitch confusion, that's true, though!
I was thinking about taking the lazy way and making a Graphghan in (US term) double stitches, since that would work up much faster Cheesy But the time spent on some crazy re-calculation might as well be put in single crochet, especially considering my lacky math skills, hehe.

The Wizard is absolutely awesome, though! I'm excited to finally try it : )

Karina,

You're very welcome!  Smile

You're right, double crochets would work up faster, but you're also correct that it would skew your pattern.  (LOL, I probably also suffer from the same disease re: lack of math skills!  Wink)

So glad you like the wizard!  Smile  If you ever want to post photos of your work, whether or not it was made with the freePatternWizard, feel free to do so...we love to drool!  Wink
