Christmas WIP
November 29, 2009 at 1:50:39 PM

I didn't have anything special I was doing for Christmas and all of a sudden WHAM! I had made a scarf out of some pretty varigated wool for my niece and had plenty left over so I made one for my sister in law too. But at Thanksgiving the sister in law saw pics of my daughter in her fake Isle hat and wants one of those. They are quick and fun to make, but I have to get to the yarn store to buy some more NORO. It was of course on sale last month, but not this month! Then I finished one sock for daughter, so I might as well hurry up and get the other done for Christmas. Then I started a ribbed cap for a great social worker I work with who is balding and walks his dog at 530 AM everyday. It was just I had the yarn and thought of him, but now I'm thinking finish for Christmas. Finally a niece is graduating from college on Dec. 21 so I'm going to finish up another scarf on the needles for her. What are you all doing for Christmas?

I'm thinking of making my brother a hat, but haven't decided on a pattern yet. I'm planning to make fingerless mitts for my sisters and my brother's girlfriend. I don't want anybody to be stuck with a design they don't like, so I'm going to make several different styles in about 3 different colors.  Surely the girls will find something they like.

I think letting them pick out their own is a fabulous idea.

I agree...it's always nice to give choices.  Smiley

I'm looking to make a nice hat and scarf set...actually, I found the perfect thing in a previous issue of Vogue Knitting, a hooded scarf with pockets.  But it required a lot of yarn, and it was all worsted weight.  So I'm thinking of going with a hat and scarf set instead, using a bulky yarn (probably Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick).  With less than a month left to make everything, argh, I don't feel this is the time to tackle an intensive worsted-weight project!

Yea!! I got the scarf for the niece cast off and washed. It's a thick, thin spun wool done on huge needles to show off the fiber. It's laid out drying. I think that's one down and 3 to go!

I'm not so great at posting pics. Maybe when the kids are home for Christmas they'll do it for me. They get frustrated because they say they've shown me several times how to do it. I remind them that I've showed them several times how to sew on a button, but it still seems I am the one sewing all the buttons on.

I finished the hat for my co-worker. I gave it to him the day we went down to 15 degrees here. He loved it!

All I have left is the sock and I'm working on the heel now. If daughter makes it home for Christmas she'll get it. If she calls this week and can't come, I won't have it done in time to ship.

Once you "get" how to post pictures you'll have fun with it.  You sound as if you have everything under control with the knitting.  Here's hoping your daughter does make it home for Christmas.

No worries!  Help is here.  Smiley  See if this works for you:

From the "Where To?" bar, go to "Circles."  In Circles, go to "Tools" (that's in the dark gray bar, to the right of "Dashboard"), pull down the Tools menu and choose and "Photos."  It will default to your own photo albums.  From the left-hand menu, you can then choose "Create New Album."

Give it a name (e.g., My Knitting), a description (e.g., What I made last year or My favorite items that I've made) and for "Tags" just enter descriptive words or terms (e.g., Knitting, Pillows, Afghans, Cardigans, Socks), and then choose "Save."

That will bring you to an "Add photos to album" page.  Click on the "browse" and locate where your photos are on your computer, and when you have the locations filled in, click "Save."

Add titles and captions (descriptions) for your photos, tags, decide which to use as the cover of your album, and "Save" on that page.  That's it...I promise!  Smiley

If you're still having problems, please let me know, and we can work something else out.  Smiley  Eventually, we'll have some video tutorials.

Way to go!  Congrats...and isn't that the nicest feeling, when someone appreciates your work?!

Hope she makes it home, then!  Best of luck with that sock.  Smiley
