Well, there not really any wilds, but it is rural. I'm very please to have found this site. It looks like a creative and fun place. Everyone seems so warm and friendly. About me . . . I am currently trying my hand at bead weaving, only peyote stitch with delica for now, love the look of the wide cuffs, I want to use them as bookmarks. I occasionally knit and crochet too, been working on and off on a "two handed knitting wrap for a number of years now. I won't say how many. I've even tried quilting. Not my forte. I was a graphic compositor for 20 years, got let go because my job became redundent. Took an off-the-wall idea and with some time and a lot of encouragement became a part-time lifeguard and swimming instructor. Now I have more time to craft. Saw the pattern wizard and now my mind is in high gear with many fabulous ideas. I just hope that I can get some of them done. I think my user name says it all. . . . if only i could . . . get it done, do it right, have more time, create more, well you get the idea.

So happy you found us!

Canada is one of my favorite places (love Ontario!) and I have many friends who live there.

Wide cuffs with peyote and Delicas are my faves, too!

They do take some time to make, but are so worth it!

Beaded bookmarks are gorgeous!

When you say two handed knitting, are you talking about stranded/Fair Isle work? That's so complicated! Do you pick up the project here and there and then stop again when it gets overwhelming? (That's the kind of thing I do, sigh. Have a bunch of projects like that...unfortunately, sometimes I take too much time off from things and then don't even remember where I left off and usually have to rip out and start way far back.

)

It's so cool that your job allows you more time to craft! LOL, there really aren't enough hours in the day to do all of those wonderful creative things, are there? I love how you've put that into your user name, because that is the soul of a crafter, wanting to do everything...so many ideas, so little time.

We're very glad the Free Pattern Wizard is a help to you...as a former graphic compositor, you must have some lovely personal artwork to turn into patterns...that's so cool!

Please do feel free to post pictures of your finished work...we love to drool!

I wasn't aware that there was an actual name for "two handed knitting". So after your query I looked it up and found that I do something called the scandanavian method of fair isle. I was taught the european method of knitting (gramma was german), so I guess I'm also a left handed knitter? I just tell anyone when asked that I'm knitting the continental method with my left and american with my right. Working on the wrap is not too difficult, there are many colours, so I just change whenever I get tired of one. It's all done in a round on circular needles, so I never get lost. It looks like giant's toque right now. I only work on it during the winter though, it's getting long and it's all wool, so it's heavy and hot. Phewww just thinking about it makes me sweaty. I'll post a picture if I ever get it done.

LOL, that's okay...for the longest time I had no idea there was a name for Continental v English knitting...seriously!

Okay, please pardon me for being so dense...are you a left-handed knitter, then...or are you saying you "pick" your stitches from your left hand and wrap from the right?

I hear you about knitting in the heat! I save knitting for the cooler weather, too. Bleah, I can't imagine sweating in the heat with yarn in the works, as well!

Summer is exclusively for beading...winter is for knitting! Though I did have to make an exception for some coasters a few weeks ago for a wedding gift. They did turn out well...but there was a lot of cursing fun for the whole family, especially considering I have very bad hot flashes, which is just so much fun!

I'm always very interested in what people are doing with crafts...it's so much fun to know and see what people are doing...and I especially look forward to seeing any work you're doing!

There is no such thing as a stupid question. They are all valid!

If I am just doing regular knitting I pick the yarn up from my left hand. If I'm knitting the 'two handed method" I pick up the yarn (colour one) from my left hand and wrap (colour two) with my right. Keeping colour one on my left side and colour two on my right. I know, sounds a little anal, but it works for me. And how can you argue with something that works?

You sound like your a busy crafting lady, hope you had a fun and prosperous long weekend.

I took some time off from beading and made some monster bookmarks for all the students that I work with who were returning to school or university. Lots of fun and easy too!
I love them because they fit over the corners of the pages and don't slip out.

Here are what some of them looked like! The bookmarks, not the students. LOL!

Wow, you have some interesting-looking students!

Seriously, those bookmarks are so cute and look like a lot of fun to make! Corner bookmarks are my favorites...you can easily see at a glance where you are, and they can't slip into the book the way conventional bookmarks do.

Okay, then you're normally a Continental knitter...LOL, thank you for being so kind about my denseness!

I don't think your two-handed knitting is at all anal. It sounds extremely efficient! Whenever I've made anything with two colors, I've dropped the needle and twisted the yarns, then started knitting Continental again. It's slow and cumbersome. I wish you lived nearby, because I'd love to learn how to work two-handed like that! Not being able to stems from when I first attempted to learn...English style.

It was so frustrating having to drop the needle, wrap the yarn and pick it up again, my gauge was all over the place and I despaired that I'd never become a knitter. Thus, I've never learned proper tension English-style.

Thank you so mcuh for sharing pics of your wonderful and fun bookmarks! Please do tell about your students' reactions to them...bet they were priceless!

IMO, the best part of crafting is the reaction from something that's lovingly handmade!
